With the warm weather upon us, even the dogs need some cool treats. I recently purchased some doggy ice cream from the store and paid an arm and a leg for it. The dogs loved their cool treat, so I knew I had to come up with a less expensive homemade version of doggy ice cream. I also like knowing that they are eating treats without preservatives or any other potentially harmful ingredients.
Ingredients:
2 cups plain non-fat yogurt
1 cup peanut butter
1 banana, mashed
2 tablespoons honey (optional)
In a medium bowl, mash banana and mix in yogurt. Slightly warm peanut butter in microwave or on the stove top, to make it easier to mix. Add peanut butter and honey to the banana and yogurt, mixing well.
You can use an ice cube tray or small paper cups to freeze the ice cream. I found some small 2 ounce plastic cups with lids at my local Walmart that worked perfectly.
Spoon ice cream into an ice cube tray or cups and freeze until set.
Recipe yields 16 – 2 ounce servings.
Winston and Lilly went nuts over their homemade ice cream! I can’t be sure, but I think they liked it better than the store bought version.

Sounds like a nice way to help dogs cool off. I always feel bad for dogs after they come in from running outside in the summer and then pant for so long.

I used to have a friend who worked in a frozen section of a grocery store and would give me the extra doggy icecream and my dogs loved it. This sounds so good and will be awesome for the hot summer days.
I wonder if it would work for cats?
I don’t have cats, but imagine they would really enjoy it. Let me know if you try it!

Sounds like something my 2 dogs would love. Roxy and Molly both love peanut butter, they love regular ice cream to as an occasional treat, these would be much healthier for them, great idea. thanks
