I’m excited to share that Nike and First Lady Michelle Obama have joined forces for Designed To Move, a campaign to raise awareness around the lack of physical activity among our nation’s children. Nike and the First Lady are perfectly matched for such a campaign. Michelle Obama has dedicated herself to ending the childhood obesity epidemic, and Nike has clearly committed to promoting physical activity in children.

Designed to Move

You might remember that last spring I was invited to attend the Nike Young Athlete’s Innovation Summit in Portland, Oregon. I was able to bring my niece Maddie, a competition cheerleader, along for the amazing event. We had an opportunity to learn about the advanced technology that goes into Nike Free Run shoes, as well as more about Nike’s commitment to promote athleticism in kids.

This latest campaign Designed to Move is a commitment to bringing physical activity back to our nation’s schools to ensure the health and longevity of America’s kids. The campaign is all about raising awareness around the lack of physical activity among our nation’s children.

Nike has created a touching campaign video to help launch the initiative. It’s incredibly moving to watch, as children answer the question what they would do if they had an extra 5 years to live.

Designed to Move

For the first time in history, this generation is expected to die five years younger than their parents. As a parent, I am so alarmed by this fact and truly appreciate that Nike and the First Lady have committed to help our children.

Disclosure: No compensation was received for this post. I am excited about the Designed to Move initiative and wanted to share it with you.

  1. This is a truly sobering thought! It’s scary that we have let things go this far when our kids will be the ones to suffer. I think this program is great and hope to see it take off!

  2. Wow how alarming to hear about the 5 years. I think tt isn’t just about obesity, it’s all the “junk” we have as food, it’s so sad. Everything is mass produced, chemical full and lacking real nutrients.
Thx for sharing this, it sounds like a great program.

    • You’re right, Hali! It’s definitely a problem caused by a combination of the foods we eat and a lack of exercise.

I think this is such a great thing that Michele Obama is doing by getting children to eat better and exercise. We all need to do our part and help our kids with eating right and exercising. What I have done is get them active with me!

She was just in Mississippi this week. I lived there for 7 years and my husband is from there.
It’s the fattest state in the nation and it’s making some headway in the childhood obesity struggle.
