My family is almost half way through the Listerine 21 Day Challenge, so I thought I’d give you an update on our progress and some tips on how to create healthy habits. Although good oral healthcare is important to me, there were some areas where my family could improve. Signing up for the Listerine 21 Day Challenge was a great way for us to create some new healthier habits.
Experts say that simple repetitive tasks require a time frame of 21 days to become a habit. I had no idea that it would be so simple to create healthy habits! Listerine was kind enough to send my family a box of oral health goodies to aid us in the 21 Day Challenge and help us on our way healthy smiles. But all you need to join in on the challenge is available at your local drugstore.
Tips to Create Healthy Habits
Start Simple – Don’t try to completely transform your habits in one day. If you take on too many changes at once, it’s easy to become overwhelmed and give up. A simple change like using Listerine® Antiseptic mouthwash twice a day for 30 seconds, can yield big results – you can clean virtually 100 percent of your mouth with this one action.
Buddy System – You are much more likely to be successful if you have someone to encourage and support you. This is the perfect excuse to get the whole family involved in adapting good oral healthcare. I know in my family, the kids are more than happy to remind each other to brush, floss, and rinse. The buddy system works great!
Don’t expect to be perfect. – Don’t expect all your attempts to create new habits to happen immediately. For example, if you forget to floss before bedtime, just do an extra good job of flossing in the morning. Just keep thinking forward.
Like I mentioned before, my family is almost half way through our Listerine 21 Day Challenge. It’s going very well so far, thanks to the encouragement we give each other and having the right supplies like Listerine® Antiseptic mouthwash.
Visit Listerine on Facebook to sign up for the challenge, and the LISTERINE® Brand will make a contribution to help Oral Health America’s Smiles Across America® program toward their goal of connecting 210,000 children with needed oral health services in 2013! There is even a fun reminder app in which you can adopt a “pet mouth” to help keep your family on track during the challenge.
