Holiday road trips can be a lot of fun, if you do just a little planning. Having good road trip snacks and keeping the kids entertained with fun car games will help even the longest of road trips run smoothly.
When I was a kid we always played License Plate Lingo. To play this game all you have to do is make up a phrase using the letters on another car’s license plate. Take turns spotting a license plate and calling the letters out on it. Each person will create a phrase using the letters called out. For example, CDM could be “cats drink milk ” or “crispy donut menu”. As you can see, this game gets pretty silly!
Hallmark recently sent my family the Grab N Gabs “Tell the Elf” Game. It’s like an electronic Mad Libs game and tons of fun. We take it in the car all the time now and it would be a fantastic edition for your holiday road trip travel kit.

A Road Trip Scavenger Hunt is always a lot of fun. Before the trip, create a list for each child and include things that would typically be seen while on a road trip. Throughout the trip each child will mark things off their list as the spot them. The first to complete the list wins!
If you are passing through a rural area, a Count the Cows game is always a big hit. Simply establish a stopping time and whoever counts the most cows before the deadline is the winner.
There are so many simple road trip games that will keep the kids entertained and help moms and dads keep their sanity. What are some of your favorite holiday road trip games?

We LOVED playing games with our kids in the car. Now it seems everyone plugs their kids into an electronic device. So sad!
