Making Memories at Stone Mountain Christmas & Snow Mountain

One of my daughters was visiting from Florida over the holidays and she has only seen snow once, so we planned a girls trip for four to Stone Mountain Park in Atlanta, Georgia. We were in luck because it’s the time of year for Stone Mountain Christmas and Snow Mountain. It was great that we only had to travel a couple of hours to have some fun in the snow which we don’t get much of in southeast Georgia.

The whole park was decked out for the holidays. It was absolutely beautiful! This was our first trip to Stone Mountain Park, so we had no idea there would be so much to see and do. It was a cold and windy day, so we bundled up pretty well as you can tell from our pictures.

After browsing a few shops, we headed over to Snow Mountain to play in the snow. I am amazed that they are able to bring in so much real snow. There was a great family play area where we had some fun throwing snow balls at each other.

Next we headed over for our 2 hour tubing session. I was so glad to see that there was a lift to take us up because I would not have wanted to do all that walking. We decided to first go down together in one of the family tubes. The girls were looking forward to watching my face as we went down and I can tell you that it was not a pretty face. I did not realize how much of a drop it was going to be. It was horrifying for me but my daughters and grand-daughter totally loved it! I found a seat with a nice view and watched as the girls went down the hill over and over again. The line moved rather quickly, so they got in a lot of tubing during our 2 hour session.

After all that fun, it was time for some hot chocolate and a bite to eat, before going on a train ride around the mountain. Everyone was singing along to Christmas songs on the ride which really added to our festive moods. At the end of our train ride the sun was beginning to set and we were welcomed back to the Village by an incredible display of lights. I have to say that my favorite part of the day was walking through the Village in the evening and taking in all of the lights. It was truly magical!

Of course we dropped into the Candy Kitchen where I had my first taste of Red Velvet Fudge. It was so decadent and delicious! The Snow Mountain Glass Shop was really neat. We got to watch one of the glassblowing artists in action. We stayed to watch the Christmas parade which was a lot of fun and then had a fabulous Southern style dinner at Miss Katie’s Restaurant.

There were a lot of things that we did not have time to do such as the shows and the Polar Express 4D Experience. The sky ride was not operating that day because of the weather. So needless to say, we will be making another trip to Stone Mountain Park.

Snow Mountain runs through February 20, 2012 (select dates). We had amazing fun there and know that your family will too!

Thank you to Stone Mountain Park for providing me with 4 complimentary tickets in exchange for my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.
