Monsters University Party Ideas :: Mike Oreo Pops #MonstersUEvent

I know we’ve been talking a lot about MONSTERS UNIVERSITY, but it’s super exciting stuff! In just two days I’ll be flying to San Francisco for a Disney MONSTERS UNIVERSITY press trip where I’ll get to see some early footage of the movie and tour Pixar Headquarters. Needless to say, I’ve got Monsters on the brain right now. I decided it wouldn’t be fair for me to have all the fun and came up with some MONSTERS UNIVERSITY party ideas like these Mike Oreo Pops, to share with my friends and family.

Monsters University Mike Oreo Pops

You might have seen Oreo Pops on the blog before. After a couple of failed attempts at making cake pops, I decided that Oreo pops are much simpler to make and just as cute.

Here’s what you need to make Monster Mike:

Oreo cookies
Mini Oreo cookies
Frosting (serves as the glue)
Green Wilton candy melts (1 bag yields about 12 pops)
Large candy eyes
Lollipop sticks

1. Carefully separate the Oreo cookies. Place a lollipop stick onto one cookie half, and use a dab of frosting as glue – to hold the stick. Place the other cookie half back on top, and gently press to seal the stick into place between the halves.

2. To create Mike’s mouth, separate Mini Oreo cookies. Cut in half, down the center of each cookie. Set aside.

3. Melt Wilton candy melts according to package directions. If it seems a bit thick to coat the cookies smoothly, add a teaspoon of shortening. Spoon the melted candy over each cookie pop, and carefully shake off any excess. Place on a parchment lined cookie sheet.

4. While the candy coating is still soft, press onto each pop 1 candy eye and one mini cookie half for the mouth. Place in refrigerator until firm. If needed, use a sharp knife to remove any excess candy coating from edges of cookie.

MONSTERS UNIVERSITY is in theaters on June 21, 2013! I think these Mike Oreo Pops would be a great addition to a Monsters University themed party or as a special snack when watching the movie.
