Play-Doh Book and Activity Sets: Christmas {Giveaway}

Now that we’re snowed in much of the time in the Northeast, I’m constantly searching for unique and fun activities to do with my two children, especially my almost-four-year-old who is home with me most days.  My daughter LOVES Play-Doh, and I love how wonderful Play-Doh activities are for her fine-motor development and her imaginative play.

Christmas Craft Fun

I was really excited to receive three interactive Play-Doh activity books from Silver Dolphin: Letters, Shapes, and Christmas Craft Fun! The one we used first was full of Christmas-themed projects. It came with the book, 4 2-oz tubs of Play-Doh, a roller, and a knife (totally kid-safe, of course!).

The first thing we did was remove the play-doh from its containers.  Then we opened the book  and started to create some of the items shown, like a Christmas tree, a candy cane, and a stocking. I promise I read the directions carefully,  but it didn’t go so well. I’m not sure if it was a simple case of user error (quite likely) or just not detailed enough instructions, because I could not make my pieces look like the examples in the book.

PlayDoh BookThese are the items I made. Not my 3 year old daughter, but my 35-year old self. I have absolutely no career in sculpting, obviously. Thankfully, my daughter was happily cutting, rolling, and shaping the Play-Doh on her own, unencumbered by the instructions in the book.

Play DohFinally, I just decided to go with the flow and join my daughter in rolling out the play-doh, cutting it, and making free-form shapes. Because really, you hand kids a glob of Play-Doh, and that is  what they want to do with it anyway.

We still looked at the pictures in the book for inspiration, but I stopped trying to make them completely perfect.

Upon further reflection, maybe that should teach me a lesson. It doesn’t have to be perfect to still be a fun, wonderful moment of play with my daughter.
