Textured Yarn Valentine Heart Craft

Use yarn to make a simple and inexpensive Valentine Heart Craft.

Yarn has been a crafting staple for years, but since I don’t knit or crochet, I tended to avoid that part of craft stores. That all changed a coupe of months ago.

There are so many fun projects that can be made using yarn! We saw several at Christmastime this last year, that inspired us to start doing yarn crafts.

We really enjoyed using white yarn to make a snowman recently and decided to try another yarn project. With Valentine’s Day coming soon, we decided to do a Valentine Heart Craft using yarn.

You could not ask for an easier and more inexpensive yarn craft project. This Valentine Heart Craft is made with one of our most favorite crafting items: paper plates. They are super inexpensive and versatile. You can do so much with them.

Supplies:

You could use a single color like we did or choose multiple colors. My preschooler chose to use a pink shade of yarn. She does not like dresses or bows, but loves the color pink, so it was not a surprise when she chose pink yarn for her Valentine heart craft.

Directions:

1. Cut a heart shape from your paper plate. I did this the good old fashion way by folding the paper plate in 1/2. Don’t worry about the crease, you will be covering it with yarn.

2. Using the glue stick, apply glue to small sections of the paper plate heart.

3. Start filling the heart in with yarn, piling it on, adding layers and texture. We did not cut the yarn until we were completely done, since we were using the same color to cover the entire heart. I helped my preschooler unravel the roll as she went. You could also cut the yarn into long pieces and add the pieces individually to the heart.
