Brazil Carnival Headdress: Summer Crafts for Kids at Michaels

It was probably a week before the school year ended when the panic set in. What would mom and I do to help keep the girls busy this summer? When I was contacted by Michaels to sign the Unplugged Summer Pact and participate in a Summer Mom Blogger Challenge, I felt so much relief. Through the Passport to Imagination classes offering summer crafts for kids at Michaels stores, my nieces would not only have fun crafting all summer long, but would also learn about different places and cultures.

I love it when learning and fun go hand in hand!

While we were at Michaels, I stocked up on some craft supplies like ribbon, craft foam and duct tape. If you look closely at the pic above, you’ll see some Justin Bieber tape that my niece Becca just had to have. Sometime next week we’ll be sharing our duct tape craft project on the blog. It’s a lot of fun!

You may have seen my blog post from earlier in the week showing how much fun we had at our first Passport to Imagination class. We learned about South America, learned how to do textile weaving from Bolivia, and made an Easter Island Moai statue out of clay.

Our At-Home Project from that class was to make a Brazil Headdress like the ones worn to Carnival. Like with most projects we do, we didn’t follow the directions exactly – rather used it as inspiration for our own craft. You can see a picture of the Brazil Headdress sample project on the Michaels web site.

Here’s What You Need To Make It:

Creatology Foam Visor
Creatology Craft Foam, Sticky-Back (I love this stuff!)
Creatology Feathers
Elmer’s Glue

Use shapes cut from sticky-back foam to decorate your headdress. Glue feathers to the top back of the visor, and allow to dry.
