The beauty of a trail mix is that it is completely customizable. Any combination of nuts, seeds, and dried fruit will work. Basically just dump into a bowl whatever you have on hand that will provide a nice flavor and texture. While I do on occasion add some chocolate chips to my trail mix, I usually try to keep it pretty healthy.
With my family having such a hectic schedule, it’s good to have something like this on hand to grab and go. This scrumptious blend provides instant energy for my granddaughters before cheer practice or myself during a long afternoon of work. Both of us working from home, my daughter and I find ourselves grabbing handfuls or bowls of trail mix when we need sustenance throughout the day.
This 4 Nut Trail Mix was created based on the ingredients I had on hand. I typically have several containers of nuts or nut blends in the pantry. On this particular day I had Pistachios, Salted Peanuts, Pecans and Cashews (my personal favorite). I didn’t rob a nut shop like they did in The Nut Job move, but I had stocked up on a variety of nuts for my holiday baking, and as usual had purchased way too much.
A nutty trail mix is also perfect for family movie night. For that occasion, I usually add a bit of popcorn to the mix. Below is my 4 Nut Trail Mix recipe inspired by the upcoming “The Nut Job” movie.
ingredients:
1 cup cashews
1 cup pecans
1 cup peanuts (salted or unsalted)
½ cup pistachios
½ cup raisins
½ cup golden raisins
1 cup Blueberry Craisins
1 cup Goldfish crackers
1 cup pretzel sticks
instructions:
Mix together all ingredients in a bowl and stir to combine. Seal in an airtight container.
