This year Autumn Equinox (Autumn Solstice) falls on September 23 at 9:04 AM UTC (Coordinated Universal Time). Autumn begins at the autumnal equinox, which is the day when day and night are the same length again.
We jumped the gun and welcomed the fall season a bit early in our house this year. As soon as the temperature dropped a few degrees, Mom and I pulled out all of our Fall themed decorations, nic-nacs and linens. I think we decorate as much for Fall as we do Christmas. This season really does not last long enough for me. It saddens me a bit when it’s time to pack up Autumn to bring out Christmas.
It’s not just the colors of Autumn decor that I love. It is so wonderful to open windows and let in the fresh air. I enjoy going for a long drive in the country to look at the beautiful orange, yellow and purple leaves. Next month we are going on a Fall Leaf Excursion, a train ride through the Blue Ridge mountains.
Autumn means apples, spice, pumpkins and gourds. It’s a hearty soup simmering in the crock pot all day and an apple pie baking in the oven.
