Did you see the big announcement from CVS President Helena Foulkes and (future VP) Jimmy Kimmel last week? CVS made a big announced on Jimmy Kimmel Live that they will be doing away with their paper receipts. I thought the announcement was made with great humor. You can watch it here on YouTube, if you missed it. Â Very soon, CVS customers will have the option to get digital receipts. No more wasteful paper! In the meantime, I am going to show you how to make a paper dress for Barbie with those receipts. Make it while you can! I have partnered with CVS Pharmacy for this post.
Why is poor Barbie naked most if the time? Barbie clothing has a way of disappearing much like socks. I can never seem to find 2 of the same sock and the dame goes for Barbie clothes and shoes.
I was at CVS the other day to pick up 3 prescriptions, and the receipt was about 2 foot long. Jimmy Kimmel nailed it when he said the receipt shouldn’t be longer than the roll of toilet paper you buy. Until you switch to digital receipts, here’s a fun paper dress for Barbie you can make:
What you need:
A barbie type doll to use for measurements
2 Foot-long receipt from CVS
Tape
Scissors
Lay your Barbie out next to the receipt. Now is the time to get creative. What kind of dress do you plan to make? Mine is a simple dress. Doesn’t she look retro in a way?
Wrap the receipt around the doll and add a piece of tape. Trim off the extra paper.
Cut 2 thin strips for straps for the dress. Tape them in place to make sure Barbie’s dress doesn’t fall down. Strapless dresses are very hard to play in.
Barbie is sporting a new dress and is ready to go outside and play.
If you want to get really fancy, since there is still plenty of receipt left after making your dress, make Barbie a purse to go with her dress. What girl doesn’t love a new purse.
Fold the paper in half. Cut out the shape of a purse. Tape up the sides.
Cut a piece for the strap and tape it in place.
Your Barbie is stylin’. Try making different styles with the left over receipt. There is more than enough to make 2 dresses.
When you decide that your Barbie has enough clothes, why not ditch the long receipt and sign up for the CVS digital receipt. You have until the end of June until CVS is ditches the paper. Keep an eye out for the exact date when all Extra Care members can go online and sign up for digital receipts.
I’m excited about the environmental impact of this change. What do you think about digital receipts?

What a clever idea and a good use for all that paper! I wish every store had credit card lookup for returns.
What a cute idea! Would have never thought of this.
Neat idea to recycle! Truthfully I get enough email as it is. I wonder if there’s a way to opt in to a printed receipt for those that don’t want more email.
What a fun idea. I was just reading an article about CVS going the digital route. Hopefully other places will follow the trend.
Definitely never would have considering using it this way! Very creative!
That’s a really cool tutorial! That’s major imagination at work.
How adorable!! My nieces would love this – I love a unique spin on barbie clothes!
I thnk your blog post is hysterial. I have often thought to myself–wow CVS uses ALOT of paper to print out my charges in hopes that I’ll use one of the 50 coupons they throw my way. Love the creative edge! Good one!
We’ve made paper clothes for dolls before. Add some washi tape and glitter glue for a fun accents next time.
Cute craft idea! I love that CVS will soon have digital receipts. I hate paper receipts.
