Boys & Girls Clubs Opening Doors for Youth

National Boys & Girls Club Week runs April 7th – April 13th this year, and it’s a great opportunity for you to learn more about the Boys & Girls Club in your area. I had the pleasure to participate in an event last week at the Brookhaven Boys and Girls Club in Atlanta. The blogger event was a chance for us to learn more about the organization and see first hand how the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta are opening doors for youth.

Boys & Girls Clubs

Atlanta is a bit of a trek for me from rural Georgia, especially on a week day. But I was eager to learn more about the Boys & Girls Clubs and share the experience with my daughter and two granddaughters who attended the event with me. I was so impressed by everything I learned about the organization that offers families club membership for just $35 annually, and turns no child away due to inability to pay. The Boys & Girls Club provides kids of all ages a safe and nurturing place to be after school and during summer break. There are also mentoring programs in place that encourage kids and teens to become leaders in their community.

We toured the beautiful Brookhaven facility which boasts a fantastic playground out front, and a large gymnasium. There are rooms with a focus on learning, arts and crafts, and a game room which is all about fun. The staff and volunteers at Brookhaven make sure that kids have homework assistance and complete all assignments on time.

One of the volunteers we met started out as a homework assistant, and now also shares her passion for knitting with the boys and girls at Brookhaven.

Pool and Foosball are other favorite pastimes at the Brookhaven Boys & Girls Club. The girls played pool for the first time while we were there.

We were most impressed by the works of art and activities we found going on in the Art Room. There are some talented kids in the Metro Atlanta Area. Maddie and Becca posed for a pic in front of the Picasso wall.

75 Blue Doors Project
Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta (BGCMA) is launching the “75 Blue Doors” Project to celebrate its 75th anniversary and show how local Clubs are “opening doors” for youth in and around Atlanta. The project partners 25 artists with local Boys & Girls Clubs to create 75 individual art displays. Each piece of art is inspired by kids and teens at the Club who are focused on achieving GREAT FUTURES and the dedicated staff members who are helping them get there. The city of Atlanta will serve as a living gallery for these works of art. While several doors will start their display April 1, the majority of artwork will hit public locations on April 7 to kick off national Boys & Girls Clubs Week.

National Boys & Girls Club Week: Open the Door. Take the Tour.
This year, National Boys & Girls Club Week (April 7-13) is being celebrated by encouraging everyone to “Open the door. Take the tour.” More than 4,000 Boys & Girls Clubs opened their doors to serve millions of kids across the nation and on military installations overseas by offering a place for them to grow and have a great future. National Boys & Girls Club Week was established to celebrate the invaluable service that Clubs bring to communities and to highlight why great futures start at Boys & Girls Clubs. Clubs provide caring guidance and fun, engaging programs that help kids: do well in school, give back to their communities and choose healthy lifestyles.

Visiting the Brookhaven Boys & Girls Club in Atlanta was such a great experience for my family. I encourage to learn more about the Boys & Girls Clubs in your area, or take the virtual club tour online.

Disclosure: I wrote this review while participating in a campaign for Mom Central Consulting on behalf of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. I attended an information session and received a gift bag and promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.
