California Wine Club Month 2 Review

You probably already know from our California Wine Club Review last month that we were lucky enough to get a 3 month California Wine Club Premiere Membership to sample. I really enjoy having a nice glass of wine with dinner, but often find myself at a loss in the supermarket when surrounded by hundreds of wine bottles. It is difficult to know what to choose, so I tend to purchase the same wines over and over again. The thing I like most about the California Wine Club membership is that there is no guess work involved. I know that I will receive 2 delicious, high quality bottles of wine each month. It gives us a chance to try new wines that we would otherwise have never discovered.
For month 2 of our membership, we received two bottles from Castoro Cellars along with the current issue of Uncorked magazine. The Uncorked magazine is really great and is included with the membership. This months issue contains valuable tasting notes, neat
information about Castoro Cellars winery, and some yummy recipes.

2010 “Blind Faith” Paso Robles Pinot Noir
I am a big fan of Pinot Noir, so I was very excited to get this bottle of wine. Castro Cellars’ Paso Robles did not disappoint! I loved the soft, velvety texture of this wine. The black cherry and smoky flavors of this wine were easy to discern.
It is recommended that this wine be served with lighter meats like poultry as well as pork chops, ham, and grilled salmon. We enjoyed this wine with some country style pork chops and potatoes and it was quite lovely.
This Pinot Noir left a lasting impression on both my palate and my memory. It is one that I hope to enjoy again.
2010 Paso Robles Gewürztraminer
This wine was totally new to me and I cannot begin to pronounce it correctly, but it turned out to be the star of the show this month. I was totally wowed by this wine with its zingy fruitiness. We were all easily able to pick up on the aromas of jasmine and ginger which lends to the zest of this wine.
The Gewürz is meant to be served chilled and pairs well with salads, Japanese or Thai cuisine.
I really appreciate being introduced to this amazing wine.
