Did you know that today is World Pasta Day? At my house it’s Barilla World Pasta Day, because we’ll be enjoying a hearty Barilla pasta dish from the “The Modern Family Pasta Cookbook”. Perhaps, I will make their recipe for Barilla Lemon Spaghetti tonight. The cook book is filled with delicious meals that are simple enough to make on a busy week night. My family has an extremely hectic schedule. Several nights per week my grandchildren have very long days with school, tumbling and cheerleading practice. When I say ‘dinner is served’ everyone comes running. It seems someone is always working late or out of town, but when we can all sit down together for a meal it’s a table of 8.
Pasta is Love…
To feed a large family like mine, I rely on pasta quite a bit and spaghetti night is guaranteed at least once per week. Dinner usually starts out looking something like this…
I usually keep it very simple. My typical baked pasta casserole consists of 1 1/2 boxes of Barilla Penne Pasta, 3 jars of Barilla Tomato & Basil Sauce, 1 pound of ground beef, 1 pound of ground sweet Italian sausage, and shredded Mozzarella. It will feed my family of 8 which includes 3 teenagers, plus a little extra for someone to have for lunch the next day. That is If I don’t get into it during the wee hours of the night.
Here I am serving it up to a hungry crowd…
My family is on the go, go, go and sitting down to a nice meal and sharing some quality time is very important to us, but not always easy to do. I know that I am not alone in my plight. According to a recent Barilla survey, while families are making time for dinner, Two-in-five meal-preparers agree it is difficult to find time to prepare dinner in their household.
The survey results also show that pasta is recognized by parents and non-parents as a tasty (88%) and easy (87%) meal option and one that can be prepared using on-hand ingredients from a pantry (82%).
Does your family enjoy a pasta night during the week?
