The holiday season is upon us, and as we approach the end of the year many of us are thinking about charitable giving. We recently partnered with Family Dollar on a project to give back in our community.
During a visit to our local food bank, Laura and I learned that there are 90 to 100 seniors who would pick up a food box in December. Many of them do not have families and may not receive any holiday gifts this year. We offered to pick up some goodies from Family Dollar that could be gifted to the seniors in our community. Our $50 budget went far at Family Dollar, and we were able to get a lot of holiday treats.
Our offer to donate a small gift for each senior spearheaded a larger project. Children from the after school youth program decorated paper bags, and filled them with the holiday treats from Family Dollar. This project turned out to be a wonderful lesson in giving for the children involved, as well as us.
Whether you are donating to a local toy drive, sponsoring a family, or donating your time there are many ways to give back to those in need. Please visit our post on the Family Dollar Blog to learn how to maximize your charitable giving this holiday season and beyond.
Giveaway: We have a $25 Family Dollar Gift Card to give away to one lucky About A Mom reader, to use as a way to give back or spend on your own personal needs. Giveaway is open to US readers and ends on December 31, 2014 at 11:59pm EST.
