It’s not often I find a toy that keeps my 11-year-old happy and entertained for an entire weekend, but that’s exactly what I got with Loopies from Alex Toys. Loopies are a fun way for kids to make their own cute plush character, and the fluffy friends are conveniently available at Walmart!
T absolutely loves plush characters. Her room is filled with baskets of them that she can’t bear to part with, so I wasn’t surprised by her excitement over the Loopies craft kit. What DID surprise me is that she stuck with it all weekend, from start to finish, and her Loopies Cat now proudly sits atop a mound of pillows on her bed.
My child isn’t known for entertaining herself very well or sitting still for any significant period of time. It takes a very special toy or activity to hold her interest. She enjoyed making this Cat so much that I’ll be heading to Walmart this week to purchase some more Loopies plush characters.
The kit comes with all supplies needed to make a furry friend, and easy-to-follow instructions.
The pre-sewn plush characters feature a mesh pocket that you and your child can fill with soft Chenille yarn, then pull out loops using a crochet hook – creating a personalized look for your fluffy friend!
After reading the directions, I showed my daughter how to get started and she was able to finish it all on her own. I appreciate that it wasn’t too difficult for her to make, but challenging enough to hold her interest.
T is one of those kids who does her own thing. She has her own unique and fun sense of style and when it comes to fashion and trend-inspired crafts. Her bedroom is filled with all of her little personal touches. Making her Loopies cat was no exception. She had fun experimenting and trying out smaller loops and larger loops. She gave her cat an extra fluffy tail. The kit came with more than enough yarn to make her cat fluffy.
The project is very forgiving. You can easily go back and add more loops to fill in the gaps. There’s no worry about making it perfect. The imperfections just lend character and add to the furry effect.
To add the face and paws, you simply pull yarn through the holes along the edges.
While making her Loopies Cat, T commented many times about how soft and cuddly it was and that she couldn’t wait to sleep with it. The chenille yarn is incredibly soft.
We’ve done some felt sewing kits but nothing like this before. Loopies has given T a taste of what it is like to knit or crochet and she really enjoyed it.
I’m looking forward to showing her how to knit her own hat or scarf. I had better brush up on some of my stitches!
This was such a fun project! I definitely recommend keeping Loopies in mind when you do your holiday shopping. It is a wonderful activity that encourages imaginative play, fine motor skills, and creativity.
