It was on March 5th that the email arrived – the one that had me screaming so loud my family thought something was horribly wrong. I read the subject line “You’re Invited to the Social Media Moms Celebration at the Walt Disney World® Resort!” and I just totally lost it. It was shear joy. As a life long lover of Disney and total social media junkie, this is a dream come true for me. I am honored to be a part of this invitation-only event.
Disney Social Media Moms
I grew up just an hour from Walt Disney World and was very blessed to visit many times as a child. As a single mom, I spent many weekends at Disney with my son. The older he got, the more we seemed to enjoy visiting the Disney Parks together. We both love going on roller coasters, and my son being a young man with a very big appetite always enjoyed Disney dining and events like the Food and Wine Festival at Epcot. Part of the magic of Disney is that it’s for men, women, boys and girls of all ages. Last fall I had the chance to visit Walt Disney World with my mom (you know her as Laura) for the first time since I was a kid. It was just the two of us that day and we had a blast!
Since getting that initial email, things have been a little hectic for me. I have had many deadlines for work and have been doing more travel than normal. My health hasn’t been very good lately, and there have been some days of not being able to think clearly. I found myself in the hospital a couple of days after I returned home from back to back press trips. It was a real wake up call for me that it’s time to slow down. It’s time to prioritize and do the things that are truly meaningful to me. The Disney Social Media Moms Celebration definitely fits into the latter.
It wasn’t until last week that the reality of this incredible opportunity finally set in, and I really started to get excited. Normally before travel I get quite stressed out, but this time I am relaxed and just plain happy. I am sharing this trip with my sister-in-law and two of my sisters who live far from me. It’s going to be the girls trip of a lifetime, and I can’t wait!

Disney has amazing speakers and activities lined up for us! I fully expect to leave this conference feeling refreshed and energized for all the amazing opportunities ahead of me.
I’ll be hitting the road on Wednesday morning for the 7 hour drive to Orlando. I hope that you’ll follow along with @aboutamom on Twitter and Instagram. Keep an eye out for the #DisneySMMoms hashtag for all the excitement and fun – I am a total dork, so be prepared! By the way, I decided to dye my hair red today in honor of Merida’s Royal Celebration this Saturday. I can’t wait to hear what you think when you see my pics on Instagram!
Let the magic begin!

You’ll have a blast. We went last year and it was jam packed with fun. I want to go back when my son is about 5 and can really take in more of the fun. Last year, he still needed a nap midway through the day.
