DIY New Year’s Eve Party Hats

My family always enjoys celebrating New Year’s Eve together. It’s a fun family night of fondue, DIY New Year’s Eve party hats, noise makers, and recounting our favorite moments from the year. Making your own DIY New Year’s Party Hats is such a festive New Year activity to do with the kids.

Our DIY New Year’s Eve party hats were pretty simple to make and much more festive than any of the hats I saw in the store. They were inexpensive to make. I used tinsel garland and some of the wired star garland that I found at the store for $1 each, but use whatever bling you have on hand.

Supplies for DIY New Year’s Eve Party Hats

scrapbooking paper
elastic cord
tinsel garland
star garland
feather boa trim (found in the craft department)
stapler
glue gun

How to Make Your Own Party Hats

Cut each hat from a piece of scrapbooking paper. If you have an old party hat, use that as a template. I didn’t have one and created my own template on a piece of construction paper. It worked out just fine. Roll each hat into the shape of a cone and secure along the seam with a few staples. I tried gluing my first one and quickly learned that the scrapbooking paper was too heavy for it to hold well.

Use a glue gun to attach garland, feather boa, and other trim around the top and bottom of each hat. We cut out a few stars from the leftover craft paper for the tops of a couple of our hats. For the others, we attached a bit of the star garland.

Once each hat is sufficiently adorned, staple a piece of elastic cord to each hat for the chin strap.
