I have to begin this review by telling you about the fabulous Nextbook Technical Support Department! I am by no means a tech savvy person and will embarrassingly admit that I had a bit of trouble getting started with my Nextbook Premium 8 Tablet. It was Thanksgiving day and after much frustration I sent an email to the Nextbook technical support people, of course not expecting a response until after the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Much to my surprise just a couple of hours later, I received an email which contained detailed instructions to get me started. It was just a stupid user error of course, but I have never claimed to be a genius.
From that point on, using my Nextbook tablet was easy peasy. The Premium 8 comes already equipped with Nook capabilities, including the Nook store. It even comes with 25 free e-books to get you started. I have been wanting an eReader for a while now, so the first thing I did was download a couple of books that I have been wanting. I love reading on my Premium 8 because the print is much larger, I don’t have to worry about my bookmark falling out, and there is no glare.
I love how small and lightweight the Premium 8 is, but not too small that its hard to use. It fits perfectly into my purse. It also comes with a protective pouch, so I don’t have to worry about it getting scratched up while in my bag.
The easy to find buttons and apps are perfect for the kids. It is so great for them to be able to play games, listen to streaming Internet music, watch YouTube videos, and watch movies on long car rides. We have even been able to take pictures and video with the Premium 8. I really like the front facing camera. For students, there is an app for voice recording during class. It is really amazing to me everything that can be done using this little tablet!
Some of the Nextbook Premium 8 features:
- 8 inch screen
- 4GB memory
- WiFi
- Kobo Reader
- Adobe Flash
- Android operating system
- Camera
- Video recorder
- SD card slot
- Built in rechargeable battery
- Office Suite Pro
- Google search on the home screen
My complaints about the Premium 8 are pretty minor. Although the Nextbook uses Android OS, you’re unable to access the Android Marketplace. However, the SlideMe Application Manager is great for downloading and purchasing nearly 3,000 Android applications. The camera doesn’t take the best of pictures, but realistically I did not expect it to.
The Nextbook Premium 8 comes with a tablet, AC adapter, USB cable, protective pouch, user manual and quick start guide all for just $299.99. When you are holiday shopping and looking for a good alternative and less expensive option to the iPad2, definitely check out EFun’s Premium 8 Tablet.
Just in time for the Holidays, E FUN is releasing the next model in its premium line of Android Nextbook Tablets – the Premium 9! The Nextbook Premium 9 is an 9″ tablet with a capacitive high-resolution color touch-screen, Rockchips RK2918, A8 Cortex 1 Ghz processor, built-in Wi-Fi, 2.0 Megapixel front facing camera, Kobo eBook Store, and numerous preloaded software items.
I received the Nextbook Premium 8 Tablet in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own.
