The minute I woke up this morning, I knew that I am getting a cold. But rather than yield to defeat, I made myself an immunity boosting smoothie and reached for bottles of Vitamin C and Echinacea. I’m hoping that I will get over this cold quickly by getting some rest, taking the right vitamins, and eating immune boosting foods. My schedule is hectic over the next couple of weeks, so I simply can’t afford to not be at my best.
I am definitely not a healthcare professional, that title is reserved for my Mom and Sister-In-Law – I am much too squeamish to be in the healthcare industry. Still, I feel pretty knowledgeable about how to fight off a cold naturally. Here is my course of action:
Sleep it off – I will get as much sleep and rest as I can over the next few days. In fact, I plan to take a Sunday afternoon nap as soon as I hit publish.
Heaps of Vitamin C and Echinacea – Both Vitamin C and Echinacea are known as natural ways to boost the immunity system.
Drink lots of Green Tea – Green Tea is full of antioxidants to help boost your immune system. Plus, a hot cup of tea is very soothing.
Eat plenty of immunity boosting foods and drink lots of water – The latter I struggle with, but I will be sure to drink more water over the next couple of days. My smoothie this morning included Greek yogurt, strawberries, blueberries, orange juice, flax seeds, and chia seeds. Spinach would have been a great addition, had I any in the fridge.
Drink a healing broth – My wonderful mother, Laura, has a healthy pot of Lentils with lots of broth and veggies on the stove right now. I’m hoping that steamy hot bowl of Lentils will help to clear up my sinuses.
Avoid dairy – Dairy creates excess mucus in the body. So don’t drink milk or eat cheese right now. I guess this means no ice cream tonight!
Do you have any tips for fighting off a cold naturally?
Although this post is sponsored, all thoughts and opinions are my own. Regrettably, I really did wake up with a miserable cold this morning.
This is such a great post because I love looking at natural ways to ward off bugs before trying other means.
There was so much illness surrounding me on the plane yesterday that I am seriously going to follow your directions. I’m scared!
I am fighting off terrible allergies this morning, hopefully some of these tips can help me. Thanks
It sounds like you have a great game plan. I always push a ton of fluids when we are sick. You can get so dehydrated when your sick it makes it harder to fight the cold. Hope you get well soon.
Wishing you a speedy recovery!! Second post to read about green tea/fruit smoothies to combat colds. Saw on Pinterest how to include both into one delicious smoothie. Plan to make it tomorrow for my son, who is fighting a lingering cough.
This is great, since there is no cure for a cold the best thing to do is take preventive measures.
I love sleep! Sleep is great for healing!
Aw, I hope you feel better! Take that vitamin c and echinaceea!
Great ideas.
I try to rest and drink a lot of water. That seems to help.
The best way to fight a cold is to drink a lot of water and to get some rest. And since rest and sleep is impossible for most of us, then a vitamin supplement is the best alternative. Eat well and rest!
