I can hardly believe the we’re already into the second month of 2020! The busy holiday season is behind us, and with the new year comes promise of hope and new beginnings. Like a lot of people, I spent the month of January trying to declutter and organize my home and my life. I picked up a new planner – two of them actually. Spent some time planning my budget for the year, figuring out where I can cut expenses and where I can splurge a little bit. When you’re a parent, making smart choices and saving money is a big deal.

We have a lot to be thankful for living in Florida… the beautiful beaches, sunshine, Florida Prepaid and so much more.
One of the perks for parents living in Florida is the ability to provide a lifetime of “tomorrows” for our children, thanks to affordable college savings plans through Florida Prepaid.
What are Florida Prepaid College Plans?
Florida Prepaid offers prepaid college savings plans that give state residents the option to set aside finances for their child’s higher education as soon as he or she is born. One of the biggest benefits of a Florida Prepaid College Plan is that it allows you to lock in college plan prices and prepay, on a monthly or lump-sum basis, the future cost of college tuition, dormitory housing, specified fees and more. When your student is ready for college, the Plan pays the costs covered under your plan type at any Florida College or State University, even if the cost of college is higher than anticipated when your plan prices were set.
If your child attends an out-of-state college or private college, the plan will pay the same amount as it would pay at a public college or university in Florida. Have peace of mind knowing that every Prepaid Plan is guaranteed by the State of Florida and you can never lose what you pay into it.
The earlier you start, the cheaper your monthly installments are, but even if your child is older it isn’t too late to start saving.
What is Open Enrollment and when does it end?
Florida Prepaid Open Enrollment is a blocked out window of time during the year that families can enroll their child in a Florida Prepaid College Savings Plan.
Florida Prepaid open enrollment is happening now, February 1- April 30, 2020. You cake advantage of that end of year bonus or tax refund and put it towards your child’s future education. Be sure to use Promo Code MOM1920 to get your $50 Application Fee waived!
Reduced Florida Prepaid Plan Prices
You might recall, there was a LOT of media buzz mid-January about reduced Florida Prepaid plan prices. This was HUGE news for Florida families and current customers. On January 13, Florida Prepaid announced a $1.3 billion price reduction. This impacted 224,000 current customers and also lowered prices for the current Open Enrollment period.
- 224,000 customers will have Prepaid Plan Prices lowered
- Lower Plan prices for the 2020 Open Enrollment, happening NOW through April 30, 2020, will start at $44/month for a newborn – lowest in five years!
- Nearly half of customers with plans purchase since 2008 have refunds available totaling more than $500 million.
How did this happen? The price reductions, which apply to plans purchased since 2008, were made possible due to successive years of lower than anticipated tuition and fee increases.
Florida Prepaid is the largest and longest-running prepaid program in the nation, thriving even as other states end their programs or stop accepting new participants.
One of the best ways to give hope to a child, is to invest in his or her college education.
