Fun New Year Craft for Kids – Paper Fortune Cookies

New Year Craft for Kids

After baking fortune cookies the other day, we’ve decided to continue with that theme for our New Year’s Eve celebration. I came across some paper fortune cookies in a magazine recently and thought it would be super easy to duplicate and fun to recreate as a New Year craft for kids. I used some leftover scrapbooking paper, but the fortune cookies could easily be made with construction paper.

Here’s What You’ll Need

craft paper in a variety of colors
strips of white paper
hot glue gun or craft glue
scissors

First prepare your fortunes. Cut strips of white paper approximately 4 inches long, and write a fortune on each one.

Cut circles out of the craft paper that are approximately 3 – 3/12 inches wide. I traced around the mouth of a plastic cup.

For each circle, place a fortune in the center and fold the circle in half, careful not to crease. Fold in half again, end to end, creating the shape of a fortune cookie. Secure in the center with a dot of glue. If the kids are helping out and you’re using craft glue, secure with a paper clip until dry or hold for several minutes.

Place fortune cookies in a bowl or basket for your guests to enjoy. These would also be a fun addition to your New Year’s place settings.
