Fun Summertime Food for Kids

Fun Summertime Food For Kids - Flower Fruit Plate

All of the running around and playing outside my family does in the summertime seems to work up quite an appetite. Whether it’s a hike through the woods or an afternoon in the pool, the kids are sure to come back inside ready for a cold drink and snack. I do my best to avoid giving them sugary foods and drinks, and take advantage of the many fresh fruits and berries that are in season this time of the year. In fact, I have some ideas to share to make fun summertime food for kids.

My daughter and I both like to get creative with food, and it’s simple to make something fun and delicious with seasonal fruits. We used pineapple, mandarin oranges, strawberries, blueberries and raspberries to make this pretty plate of flowers.

We used mandarin orange segments, and cut rings of pineapple into wedges to make flower petals. Strawberries can easily be transformed into roses with a few strategically placed cuts. Berries are perfect as the flower centers.

Lunchtime can get boring with plain old sandwiches, so I sometimes like to make pinwheels using spinach tortilla wraps. I use half of a package of cream cheese softened, and stir in about 1 to 2 teaspoons of Ranch seasoning. It’s enough to smear onto 3 or 4 wraps. After spreading some ranch cream cheese onto the wraps, I add several slices of sandwich meat, roll them up and slice. This is always a hit at lunchtime at my house.

My family’s drink of choice this summer is Mott’s for Tots with 40% less sugar than 100% apple juice, and essential vitamins A,C, and E. Developed with tots unique nutritional needs in mind, Mott’s for Tots delivers essential nutrition kids need and the great taste they want.

Mott’s Promise: Nurture the potential in every kid every day. I just love that!
