It’s been more than a few years since this Grandma has been in school, so I am thankful for all the help I can get when it comes to homework time for my grandchildren. Over summer break, I had great success in getting my granddaughters to read but convincing them to brush up on math was a little more challenging for me. Getting the opportunity to try out Go Math! Academy, an online learning program couldn’t have come at a better time for us.

*I received compensation from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for writing this post.*

Go Math! Academy is an online, at-home learning program based on Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s enormously successful GO Math!™ textbook curriculum. Used by over 7 million kids worldwide, Go Math! Academy offers thousands of math practice problems, hundreds or help videos, and plenty of games and rewards to make learning fun!

Go Math! Academy makes learning fun for kids. When we set up Maddie’s profile, she got to choose a journey – Jungle World or Sky World. It’s an environment for learning without pressure. There are several things that I really like about Go Math! Academy. The first being the positive reinforcement the child receives at each step. As activity lessons are completed, awards are achieved. There’s even a special section where you can view the awards gained, and you can print them out as well.

I especially like that there are help related features that assist children if they have problems understanding a skill. If your child gets an answer wrong, Go Math! Academy makes sure to tell them what they missed and lets them correct it. Once a skill is mastered, children can move around a bit and try the higher levels of that particular skill.

For parents, you can track your child’s progress on a dashboard that is password protected, making it easy to review what skill your child is on at any time.

**Key features of Go Math! Academy:**

- Lively, engaging online experience lets children select a theme to launch their own personal math journey1
- Independent learning empowers children to complete the grade-level curriculum in order to select the skill they want to practice.
- Skill-boosting approach offers step-by-step math problems to support practice.
- Entertaining help videos feature expert instructors (and loveable puppets to engage younger kids) who make math concepts clear and fun!

The online program currently covers grades K- 6. With my grandchildren getting older, I’m hoping this is soon extended to include middle school and high school. I think Go Math! Academy is great. It makes homework fun, it’s affordable and it saves money on tutoring.

Go Math! Academy is available in your choice of three payment plans (access for up to 5 children):

- Monthly: $9.99/month
- 6-months: $49.99 ($8.33/month) – a 17% savings
- 1-year: $79.99 ($6.67/month) – a 33% savings

I think it’s wonderful that there are programs like this for kids! I know I always learn better when fun is associated with the subject!

fancygrlnancy (Nancy Partin) says

This sounds great. My son usually does well in math, but recently has been slacking. This would be a fun way to get him back on track.

Robin (Masshole Mommy) says

My 7 year old struggles in math, so this would be perfect for him!!

Candy O says

What a fabulous program! Will be a good investment during the summer!

Tracy says

I wish they offered a free trial to see if my son likes it or not. Unfortunately, the only way to try it out is to enter my credit card number… 🙁 Also, can’t find info on whether the lessons are in line with the Ontario, Canada school system curriculum.

Robin (Masshole Mommy) says

A free trial would be a great idea. I like to try before I buy, too.

Eliza Ferree says

I just learned my 5th grader is having issues with her math so this may be something I end up trying out. Thanks for posting this review, I’ve seen others but at the time she wasn’t needing it as they just started school but thankfully I saw this again and remembered.

Liz Mays says

This would really help hammer home some concepts kids might be having trouble with. Great idea!

Lisa says

This is the first I’m hearing of this site. Definitely going to check it out for my son though!

Marina says

What a great way to help children with their math. Math is one of the hardest subjects for young children, in my opinion, and this is a wonderful way to help them connect with the concepts.

Myrah - Coupon Mamacita says

Math can definitely be a tough subject. I always love seeing new and inventive ways like this to help children with math.

Trisha (MomDot) says

Math is something that can be loved by any child, as long as they fully understand it. Unfortunately there are so many different ways to teach, and they aren’t all 100% effective for every student. This is a great resource to keep in the back of my mind if my kids every need a little extra help with math.

Marina says

The thing about today’s math that frustrates me so much is that the children have to answer it using a certain method or it’s wrong, even when it’s right. For example, a saw an answer marked incorrect because the child answered “7×2” instead of “2×7”. Aren’t they the same thing?!

Pam says

This looks like a great way to help children who aren’t really interested in math. Making math fun is sure to help them learn.

Rosey says

You’re right that is a big savings when comparing it to tutoring. It sounds like a wonderful resource to have, and you were great to share it.

Lindsey @ Redhead Baby Mama says

I would have done so much better when I was a kid with a program like this. I needed all the math help I could get.

Agreed. Math can be difficult to say the least!

Tammy says

We homeschooled our daughter and she did all her math online with a program. She was more than prepared for college level math when she started University this fall. I think video edutainment games are the way to go to keep kids interested in learning.

Everyday Living with Chrys says

Kiddo just started back to school right after Labor Day. Last year she struggled a bit. We are hoping with a new year and a new teacher things might go a little better for her.

Jessica (Savory Experiments) says

The connection between learning, fun, technology and math is fabulous in this game. All are important skills in this day and age. I was talking to a math teacher the other day and she was explaining that beyond basic math, it is not more important for kids to know how to be resourceful and find the answer rather being able to solve the problem manually.

Megan @ C'mon Get Crafty says

There seem to be so many great programs for kids nowadays to help with sticky subjects like math. I could have used some help when I was a kid, that’s for sure!

Toni says

We have been using this site. It’s really helping my kids be entertained with math which makes them want to keep learning it.

With this online program, learners get to learn more even outside the four brick walls of the classroom. It’s great to have engagement with other kids and be on the same page throughout the process. Would you know any site that’s similar for Science?
