Have you ever had to battle with your furry friends to keep them from eating your houseplants or garden? If you’re lucky enough to have a garden, a balcony, or even a sunny patio, you should look into growing an herb garden for your cat. Today, I’m excited to talk to you about growing herbs for cats, as well as introduce you to NEW Nutrish Zero Grain Chicken & Potato recipe cat food. Rachael Ray Nutrish has sponsored this post, but all opinions are my own.

Earlier this month, Bindy and Boots got a wonderful delivery from our friends at Rachael Ray Nutrish. They sent us a beautiful wooden crate containing a bag of the NEW Zero Grain Chicken & Potato recipe cat food, catnip seeds, and some other seeds and planting items. It was such an exciting delivery, and I am pleased to say that we have another Zero Grain Chicken & Potato from Nutrish kit to give away! The crate is wonderful for holding gardening gear or cat toys. The gardening supplies are being put to good use in our newly planted catnip garden!

Real U.S. farm-raised chicken is the #1 ingredient in Nutrish Zero Grain Food for Cats Chicken & Potato Recipe, and provides essential nutrients to help support healthy organs & lean muscle mass. Potatoes & peas are easily digestible alternative carbohydrates that have been carefully selected because they’re naturally gluten free and gentle on your cat’s digestive system. Cranberries are natural sources of vitamin C to help keep your cat’s immune system strong.

Eggs are high-quality protein sources that also provide essential amino acids that contribute to growth and muscle development, and beet pulp is a wholesome fiber source that naturally provides prebiotics to help maintain healthy digestion. Another important ingredient is Taurine — an essential amino acid for kitten and cat health. It helps support kitten growth and vision and heart health throughout your cat’s life.

Why Zero Grain? Pet’s natural diets are low in grains, and some pets need a more allergy-friendly food. Like humans, some cats and dogs have grain allergies. Rachael Ray Nutrish Zero Grain recipe is a natural food plus vitamins & minerals that doesn’t contain any grains, glutens, fillers or artificial ingredients, so it may be a more allergy-friendly food for your pet.

TIP: Because Nutrish Zero Grain Chicken & Potato may offer different ingredients than your cat is used to, it may take up to ten days for your cat’s system to become acclimated. Slowly mix with the other food over a 5-10 day period until your cat is solely eating the new recipe.

Growing Herbs for Cats

While there are plenty of plants that are dangerous for your cat such as Lilies and Oleanders, there are some which are fine for homes with cats.

Even for novice gardeners, growing herbs for cats is incredibly easy. I have been growing my own herbs on the patio for years. However, this is the first time I have grown my own catnip. Bindy and Boots are so excited about this! An herb garden needn’t take up much space. If your apartment balcony or a windowsill in your home gets plenty of sunlight, you’re good to go.

Many common herbs used for seasoning are also cat-friendly, including basil, dill, lavender, mint, oregano, parsley, and rosemary. Bean sprouts, oat grass and wheat grass are other plants that are simple to grow in a pot, and safe for your cats.

Catnip is supposed to be super easy to grow at home. All you need is a packet of seeds and a pot of soil. I just planted mine and should see see some sprouts coming through the soil in as little as 5-10 days. Catnip requires full sunlight, so I’ll be keeping this pot outdoors. Pretty soon Bindy and Boots will be in a catnip paradise.

  • We have 4 cats we love ages 4-19 years old. Bella our latest rescue and Fergie who found us and moved in. Noel and Mandy are our oldest 19 and 18 years old. all are so different in their personalities. They are our fur babies who surround me all day in our home and love to keep us company.

  • Lieutenant Doof and Miss Kitty can be really sweet…or they can completely ignore us. Doof likes to strut his cocky stuff like he owns the house. Miss Kitty is…really sweet…maybe not so smart 🙂

  • We have a Siamese/Burmese blue eyed cat named Precious and it would be so awesome to win this for her, thanks for the opportunity!
