Longer days, a change in routine, and exposure to germs are just a few of the things that can make you sick while traveling. With summer vacation season upon us, it seems fitting to talk about healthy travel snacks and tips to keep healthy while on the road this summer. I am glad to partner with CVS/pharmacy for the #FindYourHealthy campaign to share my tips and tricks for healthier travel.
I’ve always had a tendency to get sick while traveling which isn’t so great for someone who travels often. I’ve learned a few tricks along the way that have helped my family stay healthy while away from home.
Pack healthy travel snacks.
Eating healthy foods can be challenging while on a road trip or flying, particularly when traveling with children. When kids get hungry their blood sugar dips often resulting in crankiness or a complete meltdown. If you’ve ever experienced a full on meltdown while trapped with your child in a plane or car, you understand the importance of keeping healthy snacks on hand.
You want to pack snacks that transport well and don’t take up too much room like Gold Emblem Abound Snack Bars. They are free of artificial preservatives and flavors. In addition you want something that has a good combination of carbohydrates, protein and fat. Apples and dried fruits are also great options too.
It’s hard to find a flights anymore that offer meal service, unless you have the luxury of flying first class. Packing a healthy snack in your carry-on will help break up the flight and curb hunger pangs.
Healthy snacks are a little easier to come by on road trips. Packing a cooler bag provides convenience, flexibility and healthy options. It’s nice when you can stop for lunch at a scenic rest stop, instead of a gas station or fast food restaurant.
Always pack your own drinks or water bottles.
Drink water even when you aren’t thirsty. If you are feeling like you are thirsty, it’s usually not a good sign.
Tip: You can’t bring liquids through airport security, but you can bring empty water bottles from home. Purchase an extra-large bottle of water after you clear security and divide it among the kids’ bottles you packed.
Bring plenty of wipes and hand sanitizer.
It’s incredibly helpful to have hand sanitizer and wipes with you for pre-snack squirting and after snack clean-up. Consider bringing along a travel pack of wipes. I usually place a small stack in a plastic zipper bag, and keep a small bottle of hand sanitizer in my purse.
Take your vitamins and supplements.
I always travel with my normal daily multivitamins and supplements. A couple of days before a trip, I start taking a little extra Vitamin C. Probiotics are also really helpful for immunity while traveling. I like to snack on Gold Emblem Abound Fruit & Nutty Probiotic Trail Mix when I’m traveling. Every little bit helps.
Get enough sleep.
Don’t underestimate the importance of getting enough sleep while traveling. Try to stay on a normal sleep schedule as much as possible. I have always had trouble sleeping in hotel rooms and have had some success in using a noise machine. It will help block out hotel noises and sibling chatter.

I do all of these but taking vitamins/supplements. I’m horrible at remembering to take them. And my husband is addicted to those breakfast biscuits. 🙂
I always bring snacks when I travel. Great way to save money.
I love foods with probiotics, we have had such positive experiences with them since introducing them into our diets.
These sound tasty! I would especially like to try out the trail mix.
I am getting ready to head tot he market for snacks for our trip we are taking – leaving tomorrow. I will check these out.
These are great snack ideas! I love that they are soo conveniently packaged and accessible.
These are really great ideas. We need to snack healthier.
This is a great list. I’ve never heard of Gold Emblem Abound before. The trail mix looks especially good.
I like these so much because not only are they healthy, there are easy to take with you without spilling out all over the place. If more companies realized that packaging like this was a big plus, they’d sell more!
