Let's have some fun in New Orleans. What do historic charm, jazz music, good eats, comfy Aerosoles shoes and fun all have in common? Why, New Orleans, of course.

What do historic charm, jazz music, good eats and comfy shoes have in common? Why, New Orleans, of course. Over Thanksgiving break my son, dad, stepmom, and myself met in Biloxi, Mississippi for a few day. Dad and Gail like to play the slots and there is plenty of that going on in Biloxi. On Thanksgiving day we made a day trip into New Orleans, which is about 1.5 hours by car from Biloxi. We had so much fun in New Orleans on that one day. In fact, we’re already planning to spend our entire Thanksgiving holiday there next year. I’m excited to partner with Aerosoles to share this fun day in New Orleans with you.

My son lives and works near Nashville now. It’s always such a treat when we get to spend time together. I would keep him at home with me forever if I had it my way.

Instead, I make the most of the visits we have. He loves it when I come spend a week or so at his house. It might have just a little something to do with the homemade freezer meals I leave behind. This new tradition of traveling for Thanksgiving, is just another way of enticing him to spend more time with his dear old mom.

New Orleans, in particular the French Quarter, is like no other city. There is such an old world charm.

Balconies were decorated with stands of beads, a reminder of the Mardi Gras parades this party city is well known for. There was even an evening parade starting when we left the city.

New Orleans is a celebration of history, culture, and Cajun country charm. Such an undone elegance. There is so much historic charm in New Orleans. Dating as far back as the mid 1700s, the grand public buildings, modest Creole cottages, elegant mansions and narrow townhouses all somehow interconnect just perfectly.

We spent the morning wondering the French Quarter, admiring the architecture, and stopping occasional for a drink or for a little shopping. I ended up bringing a rather large bag full of Pralines back to Georgia.

Jazz music drew us into Jackson Square where hundreds of people stood listening, dancing and enjoying the big band sound. I was shocked by how many people were spending Thanksgiving day in the French Quarter.

Declared a National Historic Landmark in 1960, Jackson Square, is a historic park in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana. It is lovely.

At Jackson Square we came across some incredibly talented street performers.

I could have listened to this talented gentleman play his saxophone all day long.

All that walking around can make a person hungry. Luckily, we had a reservation for an early dinner at Tableau which is conveniently located adjacent to Jackson Square. This was actually my first time having Thanksgiving dinner in a restaurant. It was so nice not having to worry about cooking or washing dishes.

The location of our table couldn’t have been anymore perfect. It backed up to French doors that opened onto a beautiful courtyard. The air was just a little cool that day. Perfection. I love this picture of my stepmom, Gail.

Tableau had a limited menu for Thanksgiving which was perfectly fine, because we all chose the traditional Thanksgiving dinner of turkey, smashed potatoes, giblet gravy and andouille stuffing. Starters included a maison salad and turtle soup. I had the praline monkey bread pudding with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream for dessert. I can’t remember the last time I tasted something that good. My son enjoyed his pumpkin pie so much that he got a second piece to take back to Biloxi.

When you get to a certain age, there are two things you really care about while traveling, especially in a walking city like New Orleans. You want to know where the public restrooms are located and you must have on a comfortable pair of walking shoes. A couple of weeks before my trip, a representative for Aerosoles reached out to see if I would be interested in reviewing a pair of shoes. Having owned several pairs of Aerosoles over the years, and knowing what great shoes they are for travel, I gladly agreed.

I chose some sporty mary jane style shoes in a silver snake printed leather. Aren’t they adorable?

The funky snake printed leather is just gorgeous. I’ve never had shoes like this before, and absolutely love them. I also appreciate that the cross strap is wider on one side and goes across the top of the foot at an angle. It makes the shoes more interesting.

The slip on style and velcro strap are great for getting you through airport security in a hurry. I always worry that I am moving too slow and making someone late for their flight. Am I the only one who worries about stuff like that?

A 1 1/2 inch wedge heel makes these shoes stylish and comfortable. These shoes are incredibly comfortable and perfect for days when you are doing a lot of walking. We walked a ton in New Orleans. I didn’t realize how large the French Quarter district is, 78 square blocks to be exact.

Normally, I don’t travel with a pair of shoes that I haven’t worn before. But being familiar with the Aerosoles brand, I was pretty comfortable with taking that chance. I’m glad that I did.

I’ll be traveling with my new Aerosoles shoes again very soon….
