Atlanta is such an amazing city. Since we live only two hours away, it’s the perfect weekend destination for us. It’s always fun to spend time in the city any time of the year, but downtown Atlanta during the holiday season is just magical. I apologize in advance for most of my pictures. I forgot my camera and had to make due with my phone.
Since my nieces have been out on winter break, we decided to spend the weekend in downtown Atlanta just before Christmas. That was supposed to be my holiday baking weekend, but having some quality girl time with my nieces and sister-in-law was a fun alternative. I did still manage to whip up some peppermint chocolate chip and peanut butter kiss cookies before Christmas Eve.
When planning a weekend in Atlanta, location is important. We decided on a return visit to the Embassy Suites Atlanta at Centennial Olympic Park.
Located adjacent to Centennial Olympic Park and a stones throw from the Georgia Aquarium, CNN Center, World of Coca Cola and the College Football Hall of Fame, this hotel is in the perfect location for a family vacation.
Just a block away from the hotel in the park resides the new SkyView ferris wheel. This was our first time going on the SkyView and it was tons of fun. I was able to score a last minute Groupon deal, making it very affordable.
In the evening, you can sometimes get a great deal on a carriage ride through the city. The horse drawn carriages were lined up near the ferris wheel, and we simply couldn’t resist an impulsive ride.
Also, in Centennial Olympic Park for the winter, is an ice skating rink. We had every intention on ice skating that weekend, but made a last minute decision to the catch a matinee at a nearby theater instead. My old body thanks me for making that decision.
The Centennial Park area is all decked out for the holidays with wreaths, lights, and a giant Christmas tree. There were many opportunities for photo opps.
The dining options were fantastic near our hotel, beginning with Ruth Chris Steakhouse located in the hotel and many others within walking distance. I love splurging on a little room service when I travel. The room service at this hotel comes from Ruth Chris Steakhouse, so it is exceptional.
A complimentary breakfast for the entire family is included with your stay. I have stayed at many hotels in my travels, and the complimentary breakfast you get at Embassy Suites is the best. We also took advantage of the evening reception while we were there, and enjoyed snacks and drinks that held us over until our late evening dinner on Saturday night.
We loved how the hotel was decked out for the holidays!
Having a separate living space from the bedroom is so nice when traveling with kids or teens. Especially for a city hotel, the suites at Embassy Suites Atlanta Centennial Olympic park are generous. Having a mini fridge in the suite, is another nice perk when you travel with children. Just outside of our suite was a lovely sitting area. They are located on each floor of the hotel, and are a nice place to sit and read or get some online work done on the free WiFi.
Spending a weekend in Atlanta during the holiday season is truly magical. I hope you will get the chance to visit there soon.
Many thanks to the Embassy Suites Atlanta Centennial Olympic Park hotel for providing us with complimentary accommodations.
What is your favorite weekend destination?
I’ve stayed in downtown Atlanta a few times, it was fun, but I ended up getting a boot on my car for staying in a parking lot too long.
Looks like you had some fun! It’s been ages since I have been to Atlanta.
I love downtown Atlanta! I haven’t been in years, but you are inspiring me to go again!
I’ve never stayed at the Embassy Suites in Olympic Park, but I love Embassy Suites hotels everywhere.
I would love to go to Atlanta. My friend went during the summer and loved it. Thanks for sharing this review. I will add Embassy Suites to my list of possible hotels to stay in.
I would love to visit Atlanta, there is so much to see and do there and it’s a great get away.
I’ve never been to downtown Atlanta. It looks like so much fun! I would certainly want to stay at this hotel too. Such great amenities. My favorite week-end getaway is to travel across state and visit the Daytona/Kennedy Space Center area. So fun!
What a wonderful idea! I can’t wait until I can do something like this with my daughter and niece. I would love to visit Centennial Olympic Park someday. It looks like it would be a lot of fun. Now that I know that there is an Embassy Suites so close it would make it easier to plan a trip. Thanks!
Looks like a great place to visit. I have had the opportunity twice and both were cancelled due to bad weather. Maybe the third time will be the charm.
I live in Atlanta! I know exactly where this hotel is…I dont do too many staycations but maybe I should and look into this hotel!
