With the warm weather upon us, even the dogs need some cool treats. I recently purchased some doggy ice cream from the store and paid an arm and a leg for it. The dogs loved their cool treat, so I knew I had to come up with a less expensive homemade version of doggy ice cream. I also like knowing that they are eating treats without preservatives or any other potentially harmful ingredients.
Ingredients:
2 cups plain non-fat yogurt
1 cup peanut butter
1 banana, mashed
2 tablespoons honey (optional)
In a medium bowl, mash banana and mix in yogurt. Slightly warm peanut butter in microwave or on the stove top, to make it easier to mix. Add peanut butter and honey to the banana and yogurt, mixing well.
You can use an ice cube tray or small paper cups to freeze the ice cream. These little 2 ounce condiment cups work great because they can be stacked and you do not have to worry about taking your regular containers would of commission.
Spoon ice cream into condiment cups and freeze until set.
Recipe yields 16 – 2 ounce servings.
Winston and Lilly went nuts over their homemade ice cream! I can’t be sure, but I think they liked it better than the store bought version.

This is perfect for my Beagle Max because I have a Skinny Cow ice cream every night after dinner and Max sits in fronts of me hoping I will give him a bite, now he can have his own!! Thank you for the recipe, and I will be checking out the other recipes for dog treats also!! :0)

his is grate my 4 babys lov theses treats i was buying 7 to 10 bays every pay day yes wow now do u have any home made dog food we can make my puppys all over 4 yrs old will not & i mean not eat store dog food iv tryed every thing caned dryed mixs im about 2 go nuts over trying 2 find something 4 them i ty

Hi Debbie, Thanks for your question. Unfortunately, we don’t have budget for a nutritionist at this time but hope to add that in the future. I have to watch my Winston’s weight too. Since these have just a few wholesome ingredients, I feel pretty good about letting him have one as a treat. As with anything in moderation. I hope your pups enjoy!
Ihaveadog that had to watch his weight too. I’ve been making him ice cream for years. Here is a low fat, fast version, just need a blender, no melting peanut butter etc. In blender mix one large container (32 oz) fat free yogurt, 1 banana, a drizzle of honey and a heaping tablespoon of peanut butter (I use fat) put into single serving containers and freeze. It makes 12 for my large dog. You can also use blueberries instead of peanut butter.

Please be careful of any artificial sweeteners in the yogurt. Especially xylitol, which can be deadly to our pets. please read labels and research any others. I would not give my dog any of them. real sugar in the yogurt would be the way to go for me.
