When you are ready to sign your child up for kindergarten, often times the school wants to see what your child knows and what they are still struggling to learn. These worksheets will help you assess where your child is right now.

What Should Children Know for Kindergarten?

While what the school wants children to know will vary from school to school some of the basic things that children should know for kindergarten are:

  • Write his or her name and recognize it when written
  • Know the ABCs
  • Name basic shapes and know which is which.
  • Sort items by shape, color, and size.

  • How to handle a book and turn the pages
  • Know the numbers 1-10 and be able to recognize it when it is seen
  • Count to 20 and be able to count objects up to 10.
  • Know the colors in a basic crayon pack

What if My Child Doesn’t Pass the Readiness Test?

These tests are designed to see what children might need help with when school starts. These tests do not mean that your child will not be able to start school. These tests help parents and teachers know where the child is struggling so that they can get to where they need to be.
