I was asked by Carusele to participate in the #WalgreensQuitForGood campaign, sponsored by Walgreens. Although I have been compensated, all opinions are my own.
My mom was a smoker for 25 years before she quit smoking with the help of nicotine gum. The fact that she was able to quit smoking after doing it for so long inspired me on my own journey for better health. Living a healthy lifestyle is so important to me now. Just like my mom, I want to be around for my own children for as long as I can. I hope to be an inspiration for them like my mom has been for me.
I love this old photo of me with my mom.

Maybe you’re not a smoker but have a friend or loved one who needs to quit smoking. I encourage you to let them know that they don’t have to do it alone. I still have family members who use tobacco products and try to be a gentle encourager and to set an example for them. Believe me, I know that old habits are hard to break and some more than others. Food used to be my comfort and my crutch, but not anymore.
In the last five years I have lost more than sixty pounds. I realized that dieting alone wasn’t going to cut it. I had to change my mindset to make lasting lifestyle changes. I was fortunate to have the encouragement and support of family and friends, and even support from new friends that I made on my journey to better health. These days I eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly. My fiancé, Andy, and I do a lot of our exercising together. We walk six miles almost every day. Since I’m not presently going to the gym, I’ve been doing barre workouts at home along with some basic core strength exercises. One of my goals for 2021 is to participate in a virtual half marathon.
Choosing healthier habits was challenging at first, but now I don’t have to give much thought to making healthy choices. It comes more naturally these days and it really helps when you have someone who supports you and your goals. The Walgreens team can be that support for you, if you’re ready to quit smoking and quit for good. They can help you build a personalized plan to quit on your terms and help you find the right Walgreens Smoking Cessation products to deliver controlled, therapeutic doses of nicotine to help with difficult, physical withdrawal symptoms and relieve cravings.
Family is so important to me. With all the craziness of 2020, I realize that more than ever. Amidst all the chaos of last year, I turned 50 AND got engaged. Through the many challenges we faced, we grew closer and stronger as a family. The new year holds so much promise for us all.
It was so great having both of my kids with me for Christmas this year. I really needed that visit from my son. And, I look forward to being able to visit my mom in Georgia later this year. In the meantime, we can continue to connect virtually, and I love looking through our family photo albums and at the gallery wall in my living room.
Is living healthier one of your goals for the new year? Do you plan to quit smoking? I hope you’ll join me in making 2021 a year for better health!
