Make Reading Fun with a Pajama Jam Reading Party

S'mores Cookies

My granddaughters love to read, and I do what I can to encourage their love for reading. When I learned about EVEREADY® and Scholastic’s Reading Under the Covers Initiative, I was eager to hop on board and host our own Pajama Jam Reading Party! It’s a great way to make reading fun for kids.

How to Host a Pajama Jam Reading Party

Get the Pajama Jam Reading Party Toolkit. Head on over to the Reading in the Dark website to download and print the Pajama Jam Reading Party Toolkit. It has great ideas and tips for planning, book ideas, and snacks.

Invite friends to come over in their pajamas for the party, and encourage them to bring a favorite book to read.

Build a fort, and keep it simple by using chairs, tables and blankets. You can even just set out some sleeping bags, pillows, and blankets. Keep everyone cozy with lots of pillows and stuffed animals.

Give the kids flashlights and lanterns to read with.

Make a yummy snack. We had delicious S’mores Cookies and milk at our pajama party. Get the recipe below. This simple S’mores Trail Mix would also be great!

S’mores Cookies Recipe

Ingredients:
2 sticks butter
1 cup granulated sugar
¾ cup light brown sugar
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
3 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 ½ cups chocolate chips
1 cup crushed graham crackers
1 ½ cups mini marshmallows, frozen

Directions:

Melt butter in a microwave safe bowl. Pour into a large bowl. While still hot, add both sugars and mix with an electric mixer on low until combined. Let sit to cool for a few minutes.

While butter mixture is cooling, combine flour, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl. Stir and set aside.

With an electric mixer on low, add eggs, one at a time, mixing completely. Mix in vanilla extract. Add flour mixture to the wet ingredients and mix until combined. Add chocolate chips and graham cracker crumbs and stir to combine.

Chill for 30 minutes to one hour, until cooled.

I hope you and your family have fun hosting your own Pajama Jam Reading Party!

I was a little worried my granddaughters would think this was silly, but they were so excited to build a fort and have a reading party. This is such a fun activity for kids of all ages!
