The unofficial summer has begun as kids wrap up the final days of the school year. It’s an exciting time for sure, but it’s only a matter of time before we Moms and Dads begin to hear those dreaded words “I’m bored.” Well, have no worries because Microsoft has the answer to this dilemma with the announcement of Microsoft Store Summer Camps!
Microsoft Store Summer Camps
Microsoft Retail Stores has recently announced they will be offering YouthSpark Summer Camps this summer! The free camps available in 58 store locations provide technology training for kids ages 8-13 and will run from June through August. These camps include programming designed to teach kids computer science skills in fun and engaging ways like learning how to build, publish and bring mobile games to life as well as produce and design their own digital movies. Many are getting close to capacity – sign up soon!
Also, Microsoft is bringing back the DigiGirlz high-tech camps with single day and multi-day programs held at multiple locations worldwide to give high school girls the opportunity to learn about careers in technology. Plus, this year Microsoft is sponsoring a Girls Who Code Summer Immersion Program on Microsoft’s Redmond campus. 20 female high school students will participate in intensive instruction in robotics, web design and mobile development with engaging, career focused mentorship and exposure led by the industry’s top female entrepreneurs and engineers.
These programs are all part of the Microsoft YouthSpark initiative, which is dedicated to connecting young people with opportunities for education, entrepreneurship and employment. Visit the Microsoft Citizenship blog post and check out the Power Point attached for more information.
I am loving everything Microsoft is doing to cure summer boredom, and teaching kids important skills to help them thrive in this technological age. Be sure to check and see if there is a summer camp near you. If your kids go, we want to hear about it!
Disclosure: I am a Windows Champions Blogger for 2014. As part of my participation in the program I will have the opportunity to try out new products and promotions.
What a great way to keep kids minds active during the summer months.
Thank you so much for letting us know about that super cool sounding Microsoft Summer Camp!
I think I have found a new summer activity for the kids!
This is a great idea! Sounds like a great summer camp. I love getting girls especially interested in technology & hopefully the method behind it!
I love that the kids will get to use their brains, learn, and have fun with this camp.
What a great program. I really like that they’re offering the Girls Who Code Summer Immersion Program. Having a daughter, I’m keenly interested in her getting the opportunity to learn whatever she wants, not having gender stereotypes in what she can do.
I love the “Girls Who Code” program. We need more of those. I wonder if they would allow “girls” in who are over 50, LOL. Great programs and I hope that the kids take advantage.
This sounds great! My oldest would love this, I wonder if they have it in Canada? Must look into!
I just love tech camps… being the mom to a very smart, tech-minded son, I love this!
My brother just started working with my 7.5 year old teaching him programming. LOVE that they are doing this!!
This looks like an awesome program! I wish we had a Microsoft store here!
