Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) is put into our food to make it taste better. What is it really?  Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) is an excitotoxins. Toxins mean poison, yet these ingredients are in the food we eat. Excitotoxins increase heart rates, cause excitability, obesity and have an adverse affect on the neuro-endocrine system.  MSG is sometimes laeled in ingredients as “hydrolyzed vegetable protein” or “HPV”, “yeast extract” or autolyzed proteins. Why not just call it what it is?

To help you avoid MSG, below is a partial list of the most common names for disguised MSG.

Food Additives That FREQUENTLY Contain MSG

  • Malt Extract
  • Malt Flavoring
  • Bouillon
  • Broth
  • Stock
  • Seasoning
  • Spices
  • Flavoring
  • Natural Flavors/Flavoring
  • Natural Beef or Chicken Flavoring

Food Additives That MAY Contain MSG Or Excitotoxins

  • Enzymes
  • Carrageenan
  • Soy Protein Concentrate
  • Soy Protein Isolate
  • Whey Protein Concentrate
  • Protease Enzymes of various sources can release excitotoxin amino acids from food proteins.

You probably already knew before reading this that MSG was something to avoid. But did you know what to look for? I recommend familiarizing yourself with these lists and to always read labels. With as much processed food as we eat today, it is important to try and limit the toxins we put into our bodies.
