My Favorite Windows 8 Recipe Apps

I’m a pretty good cook, but only when I have a good recipe. My mom is what you would consider a creative cook… she does not measure or use recipes. Rather, she has a natural ability to create something from scratch that’s sure to taste amazing. The creativity gene stopped with her – I’m not so gifted in the kitchen, and rely heavily on recipes. That’s why I love my Windows 8 recipe apps. They make me look like a pro in the kitchen!

My Favorite Windows 8 Recipe Apps

Before I got the Surface tablet, I was always printing recipes from my computer or jotting down notes from one of my many cookbooks. These days I simply set my Surface tablet up on the kitchen counter, and open one of my favorite recipe apps. Now I can’t imagine cooking any other way. In fact, I was recently able to donate a lot of my old cookbooks to the local library.

My favorite Windows 8 recipe apps…

Everyday Food
I have long been a fan of Martha Stewart recipes, and am thrilled that Everyday Food launched an app last fall. Much like the magazine, the app features delicious and easy to make recipes. You might recall that I live pretty far out in the country, so a quick trip to the store is not something I can do. I like that many of the featured recipes can be made with ingredients that I already have stocked in my kitchen. When you open up the app, there is a daily video from the magazine’s editor-in-chief Sarah Carey – don’t worry though if you’re in a hurry… the video is short. If you find a recipe you really like, there is an option to add it to your favorites.

Allrecipes
The Allrecipes recipe collection vast, with over 40,000 recipes to choose from. These are tried and true recipes, that I can always trust. My favorite feature about this app is the option to search recipes by ingredients. Say I have a chicken in the oven and can’t decide what to do with it… I simply select chicken as my ingredient and presto – there are 6706 recipes to choose from, and all with lots of reviews.

CookBook
I really enjoy all the family-friendly recipes available through the CookBook app. You can easily find recipes with the search option or browsing categories like main course, salad, breakfast, and more. One of my favorite features is how easy it is to save recipes into favorites. My two latest favorites include recipes for Red Lobster Cheddar Biscuits and Olive Garden Salad and Dressing. I love being able to bring my family’s restaurant favorites into our kitchen.

Pepperplate
I just started playing around with the Pepperplate and am super excited about it. Pepperplate is an easy way to get organized in the kitchen. It lets you create and add your favorite recipes. You can even scale recipes to make the right amount for your family. You can create menus, using your favorite recipes, and also a shopping list. The planning option helps you to plan meals weeks or months in advance. I am currently working on adding all of my family’s favorite recipes to Pepperplate. My 26 year old son is always calling me to ask for recipes. With Pepperplate I can easily share recipes with him by email, Facebook or even Twitter.

I know a lot of you do weekly and monthly menu planning – you definitely want to check out this app! I should probably mention that all of my favorite recipe apps are currently available for free from the Windows Store.

Disclosure: I am a Windows Champions Blogger for 2013. As part of my participation in the program I will have the opportunity to try out new products and promotions.
