A nautical theme is perfect for summer celebrations. With July 4th coming up soon, I think these patriotic sailboat cupcakes are just perfect. I got the inspiration to make these from some sweet ‘it’s a boy’ cupcakes I came across at The Faux Martha.
Sail into summer with these fun Patriotic Sailboat Cupcakes!
The instructions provided are to make the sails. For the cupcakes I used a white cake mix and whipped up a batch of my favorite buttercream icing. SpRinKles are a must! I ordered this sprinkles trio from Amazon. I love the bit of yellow mixed in with the red, white and blue. I also used these cute patriotic cupcake liners.
You’re going to be surprised by how simple these sails are to make.
What you’ll need:
frosted cupcakes
4 1/2 inch bamboo knot cocktail pics
assorted scrapbooking paper
craft glue
scissors
Cut the scrapbooking paper into 2 1/2 inch squares. If your cocktail pics are longer or shorter than 4 1/2 inches, adjust accordingly. Just leave enough at the end of the pick to poke into the cupcakes.
Fold each square in half to form a triangle. On one end of the crease snip with your scissors, approximately 1/4 inch. This is where you will slide in the pick. Use the image below as a guide. Run a bead of glue to hold the pick in place and adhere the paper to form a sail.
