Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge - Power Up and Read

Literacy is one of the best gifts we can give our children. It opens their minds, encourages creativity and gives them valuable skills. The Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge provides fantastic tools and incentives for getting kids to read during the summer. The program encourage families to find innovative ways to discover the power and joy of reading. I am so excited to once again be a paid ambassador for the Scholastic Summer Reading program. It’s such a wonderful program.

Last summer I signed my granddaughters up to participate in the Scholastic Summer Reading program and it was a great experience for us all. Maddie was already an avid reader. However, Rebecca, was a child who never much enjoyed reading. Through the encouragement of the program, we found a genre of books that she really enjoys and she’s been reading regularly ever since. Who would have guessed she would enjoy reading about aliens and kids with super powers?

Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge 2015

The school year is winding down, so now is the time to prepare for summer reading. We have signed up for this year’s Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge and have begun gathering our books. I hope you and your children will join us for this summer’s Scholastic Summer Reading program!

Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge

The first step is to sign up for the Scholastic Summer Reading program online. Be sure to have your child with you when you sign up, so they can create their own anonymous screen name. This year’s challenge theme is “Power Up & Read,” encouraging kids to read all summer long and unlock 12 original short stories by bestselling children’s authors as kids reach reading milestones. Scholastic has joined together with ENERGIZER® to power the Summer Reading Challenge and encourage families to find innovative ways to discover the power and joy of reading. Parents can sign up kids beginning May 4, 2015 and runs through September 4, 2015.

This is such a fantastic program. It encourages kids to read and log their reading minutes online each day. As they do and meet their weekly goal, kids will unlock stories and earn rewards. There are a lot of fun activities for kids on the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge website. I encourage you to check it out and grab some helpful printables while you’re there.
