If you live in a coastal community, now is the time to prepare for hurricane season. Have an evacuation plan in place and assemble a hurricane kit that will last your family for a minimum of 72 hours but possibly up to a week. Beginning June 15 through July 13, 2019 you can save over $30 on hurricane essentials at Publix.
Here in Florida hurricane season can be a stressful time for families. This is something I learned when Hurricane Irma paid us a visit in September of 2017. I decided to ride out the storm with my daughter and our dog, and my parents joined us. My home at the time had a lot of windows, so I cleared out my bedroom’s walk-in closet for a makeshift bunker. We lost power quickly, but the memory that stands out the most from that night is the sound of the wind. Then, the loud crash when the large oak tree in my front yard came down onto the garage. We were terrified.
What followed was a major cleanup and almost 4 days without electricity. Fortunately, I had stocked up on hurricane essentials at Publix ahead of the storm and we had everything we needed to get us through. That is, everything except air conditioning.
I’ve begun assembling my hurricane kit for the 2019 season and am sharing some of what I consider to be must-have supplies. Also, the terrific savings I found at Publix for hurricane essentials.
Prepare for Hurricane Season at Publix (Over $30 in Savings)
Water. Enough for 1 gallon per person per day. Keep in mind you’ll need water for cooking, cleaning, and your pets. Through July 13, save $2.00 off Any ONE (1) Zephyrhills® or Deer Park® Brand Natural Spring Water 12pl./5L.
Food. At a minimum, a three-day supply of non-perishable food. Be sure to include a manual can opener. Instant non-fat milk and nutrition drinks are good to have on hand. I’m including Carnation® Breakfast Essentials drinks in my kit this year. Publix has savings on these right now, along with Boost®. If you have a little one at home, be sure to check out the offers on Gerber® products, during the Publix hurricane essentials event.
First Aid Kit. Assemble a basic first aid kit that includes antiseptic and bandages. Also, gather all prescription medications you may need. Don’t forget to include something for a headache. Trust me, you’ll need it. During the Publix hurricane essentials savings event, you can save $2.00 off Any ONE (1) Aleve® 20-270ct.
Waterproof Containers. These are important for storing important documents and photos. Save $1.50 off at Publix on any ONE (1) Ziploc® Brand Big Bags, Flexible Totes, or Space Bags (1-5 ct). I also recommend having a couple of tarps on hand. They came in handy when the tree came down onto my home.
Flashlights and Batteries. I keep an assortment of flashlights and lanterns on hand, and each hurricane season I replenish my supply of batteries. Right now Publix has awesome savings on a variety of Energizer® – MAX® brand batteries.
In addition to preparing a hurricane kit, it is important to know your evacuation route, sandbag locations, and where local shelters will be. If you’re a pet owner, be sure to have a carrier and current vet records on hand. For younger children, I recommend small toys or games to keep them occupied before and after the storm. The time you spend sitting at home without electricity or in a shelter can seem like an eternity. A simple deck of cards can be a life saver.
If you have to evacuate, you’ll need to bring your own essentials to a shelter, including food, water, documents, sleeping bags or air mattresses.
Be sure to visit Publix through July 13, 2019 for over $30 in savings on hurricane essentials. Get the savings!
