I had a Saturday free and was wondering what to do on an afternoon with two little animal loving kiddos. We needed pumpkins for our annual decorating event and stumbled upon a pumpkin patch at our local Humane Society in Tampa.
Its been years since I rescued my last animal so I hadn’t visited in a while. Wow! Things have changed. They had areas for the kids to interact with rabbits and cats. A great way to consider a future pet without total commitment up front. There were also areas to enjoy time with a potential future dog but since we were not into adoption today, we didn’t want to become too excited.
After many animal encounters it was on to the pumpkin patch! It was adorable! They had plain pumpkins for sale as well as decorated ones by volunteers. The talent and creativity blew me away. If only I could take all of them home. But that would lead to an awful lot of pie. How could one resist a pack of donuts or a puppy pumpkin? The 6 year old will talk about his love of the puppy to anyone who will listen.
The kids learned about adoption and responsibility for taking care of animals. They also got to talk to other families about their animals as they visited and took photos. I’m thankful for what the Tampa Humane Society does for the furry friends in our community and was happy to support their efforts.
This was such a great unplanned experience. I encourage you to try out your local offerings of fall activities. While it was a small event, it was not to be underestimated. We had a very enjoyable 2 hours! We are very much looking forward to others in the future.

A fun learning setting, festive 🙂
What a fun event! My grandsons would enjoy seeing the animals and learning about adoption.
The Pumpkins are so cute, and I love the dog’s coat that said I love Cats! How adorable. What a great place to get a pumpkin and teach the kids about animals.
oh, this is awesome. i wonder if there are simialr events in my city! thanks for sharing
what a great idea and those pumpkins are adorable and I love the doggie sweater that says “I love cats”!!!! doggone cute!
I hope people will change their minds about buying dogs and instead adopt all the sweet ones at the shelters. We have adopted our last two and couldn’t be happier. They are the best dogs ever. Give love a change please!
Looks like a fun event for a good cause. I don’t have my pumpkin yet, and since my local humane society (Humane Society of the Nature Coast) isn’t doing anything, it would be great to support a neighboring one.
My two kitties were from a shelter, and they were the best!
OH!! this is so wonderful, I love to hear stories about places that are uplifting to animals, Its so important for everyone to know that they matter , like us ,,, we all have to live on the same planet, just give some love,,,, share your life….
What a great event to have! The area to meet and greet looks very nice.
