I think now more than ever it’s crucial we teach young people to be compassionate, kind and empathetic. I’m a huge fan of the Rules of Kindness project from generationOn, the youth service division of Points of Light, and Hasbro Children’s Fund. I’ve partnered with Hasbro as a Hasbro Kindness Ambassador, and am excited to share ways that families like yours and mine can help make this world a kinder place.
The campaign, which encourages kids to create and act on their own Rules of Kindness, is designed to build a culture of caring and empathy among today’s youth.
Through October 17, teens, teachers, parents, and youth leaders can visit generationOn.org/rulesofkindness to sign up, submit their Rules of Kindness, and see how others are putting their Rules into action. The website features tools and resources for parents and teachers designed to help develop compassionate young changemakers who then put kindness into action through service. The site also includes a toolkit and list of service project ideas. You can even enter your zip code to find service projects and volunteer opportunities in your area.
There are no right or wrong Rules of Kindness. Your rules can be as simple as saying “hi” to a stranger or saying thank you. Kindness is contagious. It makes a difference for the giver, receiver and anyone who witnesses.
Tati was so eager to create her own Rules of Kindness when I shared the campaign with her. I worked with Tati’s teacher on a classroom activity to encourage students to participate in the challenge and create their own rules of kindness.
The kids got to learn about the Rules of Kindness initiative and check out the website where they could sign up with their parents. I loved seeing all the creative ways the kids will show kindness.
Rules of Kindness Project
You don’t have to do a classroom activity like I am to get involved. Simply visit generationOn.org/rulesofkindness with your kids to sign up and submit your Rules of Kindness. Then spend some time talking about how you will put your plan into action, and do it. Tati and I have volunteered to sort food at a local food bank. This will be the first service project we have done together, since Tati and I became a family a a couple of months ago. I’m looking forward to not only helping the community, but teaching her the importance of helping those in need.
The Rules of Kindness project goal is to get 75,000 youth volunteers to sign up and join Hasbro and generationOn’s movement for kindness. Can you imagine the incredible impact this will have on our nation’s youth? I get the shivers just thinking about it!

Love this project. We have similar goals now that A.J. is in Cub Scouts.
Kudos to Hasbro for this campaign. I think that kindness is something that all people can always be reminded of and young people taught!
This is such a great idea for a project and movement. It is so needed in our society. I can even see this as being something utilized by scout organizations! Thanks for the information!
Wow, nice project. Hope that there are many of this, a nice way to teach kids.
What a wonderful campaign. I love companies that give back and teach our children!
It’s so important to make sure our children are raised to be kind in the world we live in now. This is a wonderful program to get kids involved in doing good things!
