Our Saturday Featured Blog this week is The ButterBottom Blog! I love that Richard approaches his blog with so much humor, making it a pleasure to read.
Taken from The ButterBottom Blog’s About page:
“The blog that is strong enough for a man, but made for a woman.
The ButterBottom Blog is my attempt at capturing the humor, stress and general absurdities of life as a stay at home dad.
After years of working on Wall St. and babysitting big egos, the family moved to sunny central Virginia and now I babysit smaller people with even bigger egos.”
Richard was kind enough to answer the following five questions to help us get to know him a bit better.
Q What helps you maintain sanity, while watching over little ones all day?
A I don’t, friend will attest I’m insane. I do play soccer pretty regularly and its a tremendous stress reliever. I just started playing again about a year ago and I didn’t realize how much I missed the camaraderie of team sports. I also play some tennis (not as much since I started up with soccer), which I love, but team sports are really fun. I try to go see some live music a few times a year, but its tough with the kids. And as I do most of the cooking – purely because of schedules, my wife is a much better cook, I really enjoy cooking when I have the chance to put something nice together. The kids rarely eat it, but my wife enjoys it.
Q Are you a reader? If so, what is the best book that you’ve read recently?
A I am a reader, but finding a good book is tough. Like other adults, I’ll pick out some classic literature that I’ve never read and many times will put it down three days later. I used to love John Irving and Pat Conroy, but after their first 5 – 7 books, Irving just got weirder or it was just much of the same weirdness and Conroy got more depressing or just the same depression and I couldn’t go any further. I love the Harry Potter books, but if I was stuck on an island, I’d probably choose The Great Gatsby. I did just read, How To Eat A Small Country not realizing it was much more geared towards women, but it was a pretty good read – a solid B.
Q Do you have any pets?
A Pets – loads of them. When Laura muses about a third child, I go to the SPCA. Right now we have three cats and three dogs – an 11 year old English Springer Spaniel, a 3 or 4 year old hound dog / spca mut, and a 1 1/2 year old French Bulldog. And actually, its the pets that help keep me sane, but the vet bills make me insane, its a delicate balancing act for sure.
Q Favorite summer movie?
A Favorite summer movie – this year the last Harry Potter. All time faves – original Star Wars, Casablanca and Godfather. But we just rented and LOVED The Kings Speech.
Q What one thing do you not leave home without, when heading out with the kids?
A Trifecta that goes with me everywhere – phone, wallet, keys. As long as I have those, I could be gone for an hour or a month. Please take a moment to visit Richard over at The ButterBottom Blog!
