Sharing His Song

I always enjoy hearing young people sing. If I had to choose between watching a performance by Georgia’s 4-H Clovers & Co and a Broadway show, I would choose Clovers & Co without hesitation. My grandson Nathaniel performs with the Georgia 4-H Clovers & Co which is Georgia’s 4-H performing arts group, made up of a group of very talented teenage singers, dancers and musicians. They give back to the community and throughout the South East by performing at fairs and other events. It’s a show you are sure to enjoy and remember for a long time to come.

As soon as Nathaniel could talk he was singing. It became clear early on that he was a gifted musician and singer. He is proficient on many instruments and sings like an Angel. I am so pleased that he likes sharing his song with others. On a regular basis, Nathaniel visits our local nursing home with his guitar in tote. The residents know him by name and look forward to his visits. He spends hours visiting different rooms, talking, laughing, and singing songs. I know that many of these people go weeks, sometimes months without visitors. It chokes me up a little just thinking about how much joy he brings to their lives.

Singing has given Nathaniel many opportunities, as well as valuable learning expreiences. Recently he was invited by University of Georgia’s President, Michael F. Adams, to perform for delegates from the West African Country Mali, who were visiting UGA to learn about farming techniques. He also provided entertainment last month with his band, throughout the night, for walkers at our local Relay for Life event.

Nathaniel also cheers on a competition team and last season volunteered his time to coach our County’s Recreation Cheerleaders. The little girls on the team totally adore and look up to him. He was so patient with the girls, many of whom were first time cheerleaders.

Balancing extra curricular activities and school can be tricky sometimes. It’s hard to believe that with so many extra curricular activities, Nathaniel has managed to maintain his grades as a gifted student. He will be graduating next year at age 16, two years ahead of his class. As important as music is to Nathaniel, Education is at the forefront. Great care is taken to ensure that his studies do not suffer.

Neutrogena also cares about education and giving back, two things that are important to my family.
