Signs That Your Child Might Need Glasses

A vision problem can interfere with your child’s learning. Fortunately, most vision problems are easily corrected with glasses. The following are signs that your child might need glasses:

Signs that your child might need glasses

  • Squinting or crossing his/her eyes
  • Tilting of the head when focusing on or pointing to something
  • Skipping lines or losing place while reading
  • Closing one eye during activities
  • Sitting too close to the television or holding books too close to face
  • Trouble catching a ball
  • Excessive tearing
  • Disinterest in reading or playing with puzzles
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Frequent Headaches
  • Excessive rubbing of the eyes

I remember getting my first pair of glasses in the second grade. I’ll never forget the feeling of being able to truly see for the first time.

It’s important for your child’s pediatrician to do a vision screening at all well-child visits. If you are noticing any of the signs listed above, you may want to schedule an appointment for a full eye exam to see if your child needs glasses.
