Simple DIY Fabric Flip Flops

As promised, here is the latest in our DIY fabric flip flops series. The girls and I have been having so much fun making our own flip flops this summer and we’ll have a couple more to share with you soon. I’ll give you a hint about the next pair… they involve duct tape – so be on the lookout for that post very soon. The flip flops we are sharing here are probably the most simple of all that we have made this summer. They require no sewing or glue, and can be made with scrap fabric and a $1 pair of plastic flip flops. We found ours at Michaels craft store.

{seriously, these are all the supplies you’ll need}

Fabric Flip Flops Supplies

The inspiration for these flip flops came from this project on Sassy Sanctuary. I fell in love with the simplicity of these flip flops and how comfortable they are on the feet.

Supplies:
1 pair inexpensive plastic flip flops
scrap fabric (2) 24″ x 4″ strips and (2) 12″ x 4″ strips
scissors

Cut and remove the plastic strap from the flip flops.

Each end of your fabric strips needs to be cut into points. This make it easier to push the fabric through the holes on the flip flops and ensure that the knots you make are small enough to nestle into the holes on the bottom of the shoe.

Use the two smaller strips to make the loop through the toe, knotting at the back. Remember, cutting a point into the end of the fabric strips will help the knot to fit into the hole. (We learned this the hard way.)

Run the larger fabric strip through the toe loop. Push the fabric ends through the side holes and knot in the back, to secure.

This is easily a $2-$3 project and can be done in as little as 15 minutes. Don’t you just love that?
