Life is all about our experiences – the good and the bad. Hopefully, a lot more of the good. So many fun memories are made over summer break when the kids are out of school. I’m always looking for ways to capture and save those special moments. Time flies and our kids are grown before we know it.
It’s been an incredibly busy summer for my family. It kicked off with a 2 week tour in Europe with my niece and friend, Debbie. Then a July “sisters birthday cruise” with my little sis, Cat. As soon as I returned from the cruise, things got really hectic as preparations began for the big move down to Florida. My amazing son flew over from Tennessee to help me. I don’t know what I would have done without him. Talk about time flying by! It’s sometimes hard to believe that I now have a grown son. The biggest part of my summer, however, was the decision to become legal guardian of my 7 year old great-niece. I often wish I could freeze time, but am so excited about all the future memories we are going to share.
Nowadays, we all have smartphones that we can quickly use to capture summer fun and special moments, and share them on social media.
Again, and again, and again.
But how do you save those memories forever? With the kids returning to school, you hopefully have a bit more time, and are wondering what to do with all of those photos and mementos from your summer fun and adventures. Lets talk about some simple ways to save summer memories forever.
Simple Ways to Save Summer Memories Forever
Make a traditional scrapbook. I think scrapbooking is one of those things you either love or hate. My girlfriend, Linda, has put together the most amazing scrapbooks for her family. For her it’s a creative outlet that is very relaxing. I’m so envious of her scrapbooks, but haven’t been able to get into scrapbooking myself. Printing all the pictures, gathering all the craft supplies -it’s just a little too much of a project for me.
Digital Scrapbooking and Photo Books. Digital scrapbooking is more my thing. It’s easy to turn your Instagram and other photos shared online into books, or you can simply upload your photos. You can choose from countless scrapbook layouts, designs and embellishments. They can be pulled together quickly then shared with friends and family digitally. You can even choose to have your digital designs turned into books, but with someone else doing all the work. Smilebox, Shutterfly and My Memories are great options.
Write it all down. While summer memories are still fresh, write about it in a journal. Ask each family member to write down what they enjoyed most about summer. You can even make your own journals, like these travel journals I made with my nieces that are covered with pictures from our summer vacation. I can’t remember what I had for lunch yesterday, so I had better get busy journaling this summer’s fun!
My favorite memories to capture and save are those simple family moments, like sharing ice cream with Grandpa. Oh, the smiles and giggles you get from a Klondike Bar, Popsicle, or Magnum Ice Cream Bar. Moments that tickle the tummy and warm the heart. These are the best. I can’t technically freeze time, but can certainly capture and save these memories to enjoy them over and over again.

I love scrapbooking. And hurrah for a trip to Europe. That’s a fun way to start off summer.
Aww freezing time is what we all wish sometimes, but it is practically, impossible. If I will get a chance, I will go back to my childhood and freeze that time. 🙂 Great ways to make moments memorable.
Aww I loved this post. We all wish we could freeze time at one moment or another. These are awesome ideas to make moments last!
The chocolate ones look so good! I wish there was more in each box though
Great ideas. I think my kids would love to journal all of their memories.
I am so jealous about your tour to Europe. I really hope I get to make it in the Spring like we have planned!
Oh, I am starting my son’s scrapbook and it is really a fun moment for me. I also remember when I was a kid, lots of great memeories.
Oh, I remember when I was young. My grandpop used to treat us with ice cream and I missed him so.
I’d love to have those cool treats anytime. Traditional scrapbook’s the way to go! Though digital’s convenient and easier to create and design.
