This year for our Halloween party, I played off the theme of the new to be released “The Amazing Spider-Man” movie and created a Spooky Spider-Man themed Halloween party for my friends and family. We missed “The Amazing Spider-Man” when it was in theaters. My family has really enjoyed all of the Spider-Man movies and have eagerly been anticipating the newest in the series, so it seemed like a perfect fit for our party. Over the last couple of weeks we have been preparing for our party, making things like Spooky Spider Pops and Googly Eyes Centerpiece.
We made a trip to our local Walmart to pre-purchase the movie and party decorations. I was excited to find “The Amazing Spider-Man” Limited Edition Mask Gift Set and lots of spider themed things for our party. By pre-purchasing the movie we were able to watch “The Amazing Spider-Man” on October 30th through VUDU, instead of waiting for the November 9th release date when it will be available in stores. The Mask Gift Set includes the Blu-ray, DVD, and Ultra Violet versions of the movie. I love that I didn’t have to pay anything extra to have early access to the movie!
For the party, I also picked up 4 – 16 inch Marketside pizzas. They are an affordable and easy way to have delicious, fresh pizza. When you’re at Walmart keep an eye out for the Amazing Spider-Man themed Augmented Reality triggers that are included on the pizza box & display pallet. They’ll trigger special Amazing Spider-Man experiences on your iPhone, iPad or Android in-store. It’s pretty cool!
On the day of our party, the girls and I decorated the house. We put 3 dimensional spiders all over the walls and made spider cupcakes. All of the things we have made over the last couple of weeks were finally on display. It was looking very spooky around here. We even had jello brains for dessert! For the spider cupcakes, we just used a prepared orange frosting and a tube of black gel to put 4 rings atop each cupcake. Then we ran a tooth pic through the frosting to create the appearance of a web. Each cupcake was topped with a plastic spider ring. Aren’t they cute?
Just before it was time for our guests to arrive, I popped the Marketside pizzas into the oven. Typically, I don’t purchase the extra-large 16 inch pizzas and was wondering what I was going to put them on. I was thrilled to learn that they go right onto the rack and I was able to slide the hot pizzas right back onto the cardboard rounds. I selected 4 different varieties and they were all so delicious.
Everyone seemed to really enjoy the snacks and sweet treats we made for them, and as expected the Marketside pizza was a big hit. We had people crammed into the dining room and living room. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t permit us to enjoy the deck that afternoon. Regardless of the weather conditions, our party was a lot of fun.
After dinner everyone gathered into the living room to watch “The Amazing Spider-Man”. This was my family’s first time watching a movie using Vudu and it was very easy to set up. I had already created a Vudu account online and registered my pre-purchased movie with them. They even gave me a free movie when I created my new account! After we downloaded the Vudu app, using the XBox 360 system, the movie was already available for us to watch.
The digital copy on Vudu also included some great bonus features. I have to admit that I was very skeptical about the change of cast, from the previous Spider-Man movies. I had become accustomed to seeing Toby Maguire as Peter Parker. The movie was fantastic! I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Andrew Garfield in the lead role and my granddaughters think he is so cute. “The Amazing Spider-Man” was the perfect movie for our spooky spider themed party.
You can still pre-purchase the movie ahead of the November 9th release date and see the UV version on Vudu. The Blu-ray and DVD discs will arrive in the mail a couple of days before it’s available everywhere.

what a fun party and love all the spiders and treats you have displayed. Did anyone eat the jello brain?
Thanks! We ate every bit of the jello brains. It was delicious! 🙂
My son loves Spiderman and this would be great fun for him. He would so dig jello brains 😀
My husband and I just started using Vudu, too. Love it!!
I have never even heard of Vudu but that was a great idea with the cupcakes and using a toothpick to create the web like creations!!! Love them. Wish I could be this creative.
