I am excited to partner with Dollar General to share some simple ways to spring clean your closet. Get your wardrobe organized with these spring cleaning closet tips!
For the past month or so I was feeling like I was trapped in an episode of “Hoarders” when it was time to get dressed in the morning. Sweaters were tumbling off the top shelf, and scarfs were buried deep in a sea of clothes that I probably wouldn’t wear again until next November. A serious closet cleaning was in order. I can’t tell you how much better I feel now that it’s done. I think it’s time to celebrate with a spring shopping spree! But first I’ll share a few spring cleaning closet tips.
Spring Clean Your Closet with these Tips
Make Way for the New
The first thing you’ll want to do is make way for the new. I always have mixed feelings over the closet purge. It can be exhilarating, liberating and stressful all at the same time. Try to think of it as a cleanse and a way to make more room for some shiny new things.
Start packing up things that you know you won’t wear during the spring and summer months. But before you get started, you’ll want to run up to Dollar General and grab a few laundry items, such as: all® detergent, Snuggle®, Wisk, and Clorox Liquid Bleach. Sweaters, coats, cardigans and scarves are all items that people typically wear more than once. It’s very important to launder these items, before packing them away for the season.
For everyday washing, I recommend using all® Free Clear Laundry Detergent. It’s the #1 recommended detergent brand by dermatologists, allergists and pediatricians for sensitive skin. Safe for the whole family, all® free clear combines the power of Stainlifters with no fragrances, dyes or irritating residue.
Check for stains, and deep clean with Wisk to make sure those stains don’t set in over the next few months. Wisk cleans beyond visible stains, attacking hidden body oils and sweat.
Brighten your whites with Clorox Liquid Bleach, and keep everything smelling fresh and clean with Snuggle®. Snuggle® fabric softener gives your family’s laundry the Snuggly Softness® and 30 days of freshness that everyone will love.
Next, is the hard part. It’s time to part with the things you don’t need. Think of this as a wonderful opportunity to make a donation to others in need. It truly is. The general rule of thumb is that if you haven’t worn something in a year, it’s time to get rid of it. This methodology has worked really well for me. As you go through your closet, make three piles – keep, donate, and trash.
Get Your Closet Organized
Now that you have made some room in your closet, it’s time to get organized. If your shoes are currently strewn about the closet floor, it’s time to make a change. This is a terrible way to take care of your shoes. If you’ve got open space under your bed, find a large, flat storage container that you can fill with your shoes and slide in and out when you need them. Or, if you’ve got room, an over-the-door shoe rack will keep your shoes tidy.
Need a place to store belts, jewelry and scarves? If you have any wall space in your closet, a great solution would be to purchase a belt rack and some hooks. If space allows, add some additional shelving too.
This is important. If you are still using them, toss those old wire hangers and get yourself some nice wooden or cloth hangers. I’m not a huge fan of the plastic hangers either, but use them if you must. Your clothes will last much longer when they are hung on the proper hangers.
Lastly, group your clothing and make it easy to find what you need in the morning. I like to organize my clothing by grouping like items together. Think capris, pants, tank tops, t-shirts, blouses, etc. This system works well for me. Another option would be to group your clothing by color. Use whichever method you prefer. The most important thing is that you bring order to your closet and make it easy to find what you need.

My thing would be totally getting my closet organized. I’m not good when it comes to that. However that coupon is going to come in very handy.
Great tips! I group my clothes according to style and color. It does save me time when I have to find a shirt or blouse to wear with a new skirt. Can’t believe it is spring cleaning time again!
I arrange it according to the time when it was used. That helps me ensure all clothes are used.
