This post brought to you by Miracle-Gro. All opinions are 100% mine.
I remember one Spring when my friend Lynda’s garden yielded A LOT of zucchini. The zucchini in her garden grew wild that year, and she had so much to give away to friends. I prepared so many recipes with zucchini that summer that it became a bit of a joke in my house. I just couldn’t bare to let any of it go to waste. Lynda’s bounty turned out to be quite a blessing for my family, as it was during a time when money was a bit tight. The abundance of vegetables helped me to stretch my grocery budget.
As far back as I can remember, I have grown an herb garden. I love cooking meals for my family flavored with fresh herbs from my garden. There’s nothing like cooking with home-grown ingredients. Although my own garden has been somewhat limited to a patio garden in recent years, I buy produce from local farmers as much as possible. This year I am expanding my own spring garden to include a salad garden and few other vegetables. I can only hope that it does so well as Lynda’s garden did that year of the bountiful zucchini.
When we grow, we grow more than just plants. As my garden grows, so does my family. All of the kids are getting older, and I hope to pass my love of gardening and cooking with fresh ingredients onto them.
I choose Miracle-Gro for my herb garden, because I want to give my plants their best chance. I will also use it for my vegetable garden this Spring. I like the convenience of using one product for all of my gardening.
Gro Something Greater
I grow a garden to help grow my family, by cooking with homegrown ingredients. Everyone grows for a reason. Some people grow to spend time with their family, or to beautify their community. Some people grow because they love cooking with home-grown ingredients, or because it’s a skill and tradition passed down from generations. Other people grow for personal relaxation, or because they love decorating their homes with cut flowers. Check out Gro Something Greater for ideas on how to grow inspiration, get-togethers, family, possibilities, curiosity, confidence, and much more.
Are you growing something greater than fruit or vegetables?
I don’t have the yard to grow a garden, but I definitely buy all my produce at the farmer’s market 🙂
My husband is excited that spring is here and he can start his vegetable garden again. He usually grows tomatoes the way your friend grew zucchini!
I would love to have a huge garden! Home grown veggies always taste best!
I love cooking with homegrown ingredients. My family bonds over our garden every year.
I love my garden. we have one every year.
There is nothing better then cooking a meal or desert that is from something you grew. It just taste so fresh. I love how you said when you grow you also grow your family.
Wish I had a garden! Even a few square feet would be enough for pole beans or a small cherry tomato plant. But we live in an apartment, and even though we have a terrace, it faces northwest and gets only 15 minutes of sun late in the day.
I love charting our kids growth, it is so fun. We do this every 6 months.
i love growing gardens and try to do it where ever i live. right now i do not have a yard but the community is going to grow a garden and i will be participating.
We have started our garden. Many things are in the seedling stage… as soon as they are ready, we will get them into the garden. The carrots, however, are in the ground – as are the herbs.
I admit that we are never sure of our garden success. We always get a few good things out of the garden, some years on a weekly basis. However, some years just produce a few really great items a month. The herbs are always there to work for us (I think I grow them to feel success in case nothing else takes). 🙂
Good luck to you – I hope to see some pictures of your garden
Thanks so much. We have been struggling with our garden and this helps.
I Can’t wait To Do A Garden With My Kids & I’m Sure I’ll Be Using miracle Grow!
i’m going to try to do more homegrown things this summer
I do not have room to grow a garden but I think over the summer my kids and I will try to grow one out of planters.
My mother-in-law swears by Miracle Grow! That is her favorite item to use in her garden. Her gardens always look amazing and the vegetables are delicious. So, she must know a thing or two.
I use Miracle Grow every year for the flowers in my front yard. My husband refuses to use anything artificial on the fruits and vegetables though
we use Miracle-Gro Organic or our gardens. love it. works so well
I’ve always wanted to garden of my own.
I want to have a garden this Spring. I need more of a green thumb though. I’ll start with some herbs.
We plant a garden each year……I sure wish spring would come to Wisconsin so we can start getting the ground ready to plant.
I wish we had a nice garden or place to plant things, at least vegetables. I really love fresh fruit and veggies. Wish I could grow them too!
Miracle Gro has a great line of products. I enjoyed reading this post.
With our garden, we’re growing family bonds, an interest in healthy foods, and roots that run deep! 🙂
I have a garden every year and Miracle Grow is the best for helping my tomatoes get nice and big! I like to grow some other vegetables, I am still trying to decide.
I love growing my own vegetables and herbs with my family. They have a lot of neat ideas on the site! Thanks for sharing.
I love Miracle Gro they’re great for people like me who ends up killing everything in sight. lol
I always have an herb garden as well. It makes such a big difference to have fresh herbs.
I usually grow flowers, but I’d love to grow my own vegetables, fruits, and herbs someday.
We are having a huge garden this year (hoping for 2 acres!), I just hope we can keep up with it 🙂
Haha I have that same zucchini problem every year! I always swear I won’t grow them again, but they’re just so easy to grow!
We are in process of growing a garden, love fresh veggies and nothing beats homegrown
I don’t have green fingers at all…. it would be so cool to grow your own veg! Looks like I can go try this out again… (and hopefully not fail again!)
I would love to plant a herb garden. I think that should be on my list for this year!
I would love to have a garden like this, but don’t have the room. After all the food documentaries I’ve watched, I only buy organic produce these days.
I have never grown zucchini myself, so I end up trading for as many as I can. Last year, I traded a ton of pavers for zucchini!
We used to grow tomatoes and herbs years ago. We also tried to grow pumpkins but they did not get very big. Neither my hubby or I have green thumbs, but we try every now and then 🙂
We are working on our garden, and have zucchini, summer squash, onions, basil, and thyme. Hopefully, we will harvest these…we’ve experienced 2 gardening casualties already. The potatoes never stood a chance against the dogs, the tomatoes were quite attractive to the birds.
I would love to have an herb garden and Miracle-Gro is definitely the brand I would turn too.
I grow for my family too 🙂 I grow because I love them and want them to be healthy.
