Stars and Stripes Firecracker Craft for Kids

Summer break is a time for renewed patriotism. With Memorial Day and the Fourth of July holidays, we take pause to remember and thank our country’s great patriots and heroes. I love it when I have the chance to pull out my favorite stars and stripes table cloth for family picnics, and there are always grandkids wanting to help with the centerpiece. We made these fun firecrackers the other day using toilet paper and paper towel tubes, craft paper, stickers, and pipe cleaners. They turned out really cute and will be a great centerpiece for our Memorial Day and July 4th celebrations. So start the fireworks early with this simple craft for kids.

Any craft paper will do for these firecrackers. I had some silver and glitter paper left over from our New Year’s Eve party hats, and was glad to put it to good use for these firecrackers. For the stars, I used a package of foam star stickers that I picked up at Walmart. If you don’t have these, construction paper would do.

What You’ll Need:
variety of craft paper in red, white, blue and silver
paper towel and toilet paper tubes
pipe cleaners
foam star stickers
craft foam
pipe cleaners
craft glue
scissors

Cut paper to size and apply to tubes with glue.

From craft foam or paper, cut circles slightly larger than the end of your tubes. Make one cut halfway into the circle. To make the pointy end of the rocket, overlap cut ends slightly to form a circular dome. Secure with a dot of glue, and glue onto one end of the tube.

Use scissors to make small holes, and poke pipe cleaners into the openings. Glue stars to the exposed ends of the pipe cleaners. Decorate tubes with additional stars, if desired.
